We have an exciting new opportunity for a dedicated and enthusiastic pharmacist to join University Hospitals Dorset as part of our Older Persons Medicine (OPM) clinical pharmacy team.


You will be an important member of the OPM pharmacy team with a focus on not only developing your own career, but also the professional journey of our junior workforce.


You will join a supportive, welcoming clinical team who share a vision to continually develop the service and professional careers of its members with the ultimate goal of providing excellent patient care. The OPM pharmacist team consists of a lead and deputy lead, supported by 5 existing band 7 specialist pharmacists spread across our 2 sites at Bournemouth and Poole hospitals. The team's medicines management responsibilities are led by 2 lead specialist technicians working across our sites. Independent prescribing course completion will be actively encouraged and well supported.
The pharmacy department is highly regarded within the trust, and we are looking for an experienced pharmacist to join us in representing the pharmacy service and trust values. The pharmacy team's values are centred around patient care and medicines optimisation to ensure the best patient outcomes. As described, you will be supported in your personal development, and you will be actively encouraged to evolve your clinical, professional and leadership skills, through coaching and mentoring, and by completing training courses and formal qualifications.

This role will require one late finish per week, weekend shifts 1 in 5 (either Saturday or Sunday) and approximately one Bank Holiday shift per year. UHD are investing in services across the Trust, with many being transformed and developed following merger and the New Hospital Programme.


In some cases this means that a services may move site this year or next, either temporarily or long term. Patient-Centred Care: Provide a patient-focused and clinically competent pharmacy service to inpatient medical wards. Team Development: Work with and develop rotational pharmacists, technicians, and trainees within the medical directorate, including supporting their professional and clinical skills.
Contribute to the development of clinical guidance and ensure that pharmacy practices align with national guidelines. Integrate secondary care services within the broader NHS Dorset Healthcare system. We are open to discussions on flexible working, part time and job share opportunities. Poole Hospital, please note that cross-site working is expected.
Master's degree in Pharmacy or equivalent
Certificate in Clinical Pharmacy or evidence of equivalent experience
Non-Medical Prescribing qualification or prepared to train for this
Pharmacist registration with General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)

Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy or equivalent


2 years NHS hospital experience
~ Clinical audit / Drug Use Review projects


Mentoring / training of staff


Ability to provide complex advice and guidance requiring analysis, interpretation and comparison of clinical options
Good clinical knowledge of current therapeutics and pharmacy practice
