About the job:

Kent is looking for a skilled and enthusiastic Senior Geophysicist for our Ground Modelling Offshore Wind team. You will be part of a growing team dedicated to delivering effective and economical solutions to complex geophysical and geotechnical projects in the offshore wind industry. Your role will be pivotal in developing ground models and reducing risks, generating options, and driving key decisions in wind farm developments. The position can be based in our London or Glasgow office.

Skills & Responsibilities:
  • Ground Modelling Expertise: Develop integrated ground models incorporating geophysical, hydrographical, geological and geotechnical datasets. Ensure these models provide a comprehensive overview of site morphology, geology, geohazards, and uncertainties.
  • Project Management: Engage in various stages of site characterisation, from early desk studies and preliminary ground models to detailed design and foundation options.
  • Risk Assessment and Mitigation: Identify and mitigate ground risks early in projects. Develop risk registers and conceptual designs to inform decision-making processes.
  • Client and Stakeholder Interaction: Provide client representative support, ensure quality control of survey data, and contribute to survey specification, tender evaluation and survey management.
  • Collaborate and integrate with other teams, focusing on offshore foundation design, marine advisory, survey management, and research & development.
  • Mentor junior team members and support the development of the team's capability.
  • Proposals: Contribute to preparation of bid proposals.
In addition to the responsibilities listed herein, the employee may be required to perform other ad-hoc tasks as needed or directed by the supervisor or management. These tasks will be within the reasonable scope of the employee's skills, capabilities, and role within the organization. The intent of this provision is to allow for flexibility and adaptability in meeting the dynamic needs of the organization, ensuring that operational requirements can be met efficiently. All such tasks will be assigned considering the employee's current workload and with respect to their professional development.

Knowledge/ Qualification/ Training/ Certification:
  • Educational Background: A degree in Geology, Geophysics, or Engineering Geology. MSc or higher degree.
  • Professional Experience: Proven experience in ground modelling, preferably in the offshore wind sector. However, candidates with relevant skills and experience from other offshore sectors will be considered.
  • Technical Skills: In-depth knowledge of integrated geophysical, geological and geotechnical data interpretation, hydrographic datasets, and seabed conditions. Familiarity with industry-standard software and tools used in ground modelling, e.g. Kingdom and GIS.
  • Knowledge of offshore geophysical site investigations and survey design.
  • Knowledge of Quaternary and glacial geology is desirable.
  • Knowledge and experience in quantitative geophysical methods is desirable.
  • Problem-Solving Abilities: Skilled in identifying, assessing, and mitigating risks. Capable of making informed decisions based on complex data analysis.
Communication:
  • A high standard in written and verbal English is required. Additional languages would be a bonus.
