The Wessex Genomics Laboratory Service (WGLS) has a new opportunity to join our cancer genomics team. For this role we are looking to appoint an ambitious individual to a permanent post as a Biomedical Scientist.


The WGLS is a new integrated genomics testing service formed from the amalgamation of Wessex Regional Genetics Laboratory (Salisbury) and UHS Molecular Pathology which is based at University Hospital Southampton. The combined WGLS is part of the Central and South Genomic Laboratory Hub. As one of the largest acute teaching Trusts in England, we offer learning and development opportunities to help you achieve the career you aspire to. Your ResponsibilitiesYou will join our diagnostic team who are committed to patient-centred service provision through accurate and timely data analysis, interpretation and reporting of genomic information. What you'll do:To supervise/ undertake the processing of pathological specimens forscreening, diagnostic and monitoring purposes.To provide accurate, timely and appropriate analytical data.To deliver a high quality service that meets the needs of the patientsand service users.To manage training and education of all grades of staff within thesection.What we're looking forWe are seeking an enthusiastic and self-motivated experienced and knowledgeable biomedical scientist to contribute to our diagnostic service for the provision of increased genetic testing in UHS and the wider region.Candidates must be HCPC registered as a Biomedical Scientist and molecular experience is advantageous.
HCPC approved Biomedical Science degree (BSc) or other HCPC approved degree/top ups
Significant previous experience in a medical laboratory
IT competency (hospital IT systems, Outlook, Microsoft)
Experience in a large acute hospital laboratory

Data analysis
Advanced Microsoft Office skills
