Chemring Energetics UK are a global business providing a range of equipment based on energetic materials for defence, civil defence and key commercial customers. An exciting and challenging opportunity has arisen for a HSSE Advisor. The successful candidate will have responsibility for carrying out the day to day operations of the HSSE department and contribute to the application of effective Health, Safety, Security and Environmental management by providing technical support.
The role holder will also assist in maintaining the Health, Safety, Security and Environment of the workforce, visitors to site and neighbours through training, advising, supporting and monitoring compliance with legislation and local procedures.
Key Accountabilities & Duties:
- Carry out all activities in full compliance with H&SE legislation, within company policy and procedure.
- Responsible for reporting any unsafe acts or unsafe conditions observed (using the Near Miss System) in accordance with responsibilities under the Health and Safety at work Act.
- Support the HSSE Operations Manager and work with the Plant Management to ensure that the Health, Safety Security & Environment Policy and the underpinning management systems are understood and adhered to.
- Conduct H&S inspections, audits and general monitoring of the allocated areas to ensure compliance and to assist in managing the actions arising from these activities.
- Support the maintenance of the safety and environmental management systems – keeping data up to date, compiling statistics, looking at trends, producing reports, preparing procedures, etc.
- Assist in the completion of risk assessments to an acceptable standard.
- Outline safe operational procedures which identify and take account of all relevant hazards, and suggest changes to working practices that are safe and comply with legislation.
- Carry out regular site inspections to check policies and procedures are being properly implemented.
- Maintain relevant HSSE logs and documentation for assigned departments and/or function and support HSSE Operations Manager with preparation of HSSE reports.
- Assist in the development and presentation of relevant HSSE training material.
- Maintain positive and proactive relations with managers and employees, as well as our customers and regulatory agencies.
- Participate in detailed incident investigations and undertake/support root cause analysis.

- Must have personal commitment to Safety, Quality and Environmental standards.
- Strong bias for action to identify potential problems and co-ordinate their resolution before they become an issue.
- Continually seeks to identify new ideas and implement new opportunities, which deliver business benefit.
- The ability to build and develop effective relationships and use these to improve performance.
- Excellent IT, communication and team working skills.
Qualifications/Experience:
- Degree or equivalent in Occupational safety and health
- Membership of IEMA (Institute of Environmental Management & Assessment) preferred
- Internal auditor OHSAS 18001 / ISO 45001 and ISO 14001
- Accredited Certificate in Training
- Experience within an HSSE team in a high hazard manufacturing environment
- Risk assessment knowledge and experience obtained in a high hazard environment
- Knowledge of OHSAS 18001 / ISO 45001 and ISO 14001
- Incident investigation experience, problem solving, root cause analysis
- Advanced IT skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
