About the role

We are currently recruiting for a Principal Engineering Manager to join our UK design team. As a Principal Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for the management and leadership of a design team including project financial responsibility. The position is required to support our expanding Water Utilities workload and will typically involve providing designs for water and wastewater infrastructure and non-infrastructure projects. This will include design delivery at all stages, from feasibility and optioneering through to detailed designs for construction and commissioning. The specific role is required primarily to support our Severn Trent, United Utilities, and Northumbrian Water frameworks, however, there will be ample opportunities to work on other projects and frameworks throughout the UK for a variety of clients. This is a permanent position and will be of a hybrid nature, ideally based in or around our Durham office; however, we are open to receiving applications from candidates from across the UK to be based at one of our other regional offices or on a remote basis.

What will your day look like

Your day will involve:

  1. Being a technical expert providing design guidance, support, and challenge.
  2. Identifying the scope of projects and incorporating them into a priced program of work.
  3. Managing all design aspects across the project lifecycle to time, cost, and quality metrics.
  4. Acting as the single point of contact for projects.
  5. Providing guidance on best methods and practice to meet technical and project requirements.
  6. Planning and managing all project design requirements.
  7. Ensuring compliance with H&S, CDM, and other appropriate regulations.
  8. Interfacing with Clients on technical matters and maintaining a strong working relationship.
  9. Engaging with stakeholders regarding project matters and providing technical reports, permits, responses to queries, etc. as required by the project.
  10. Preparing tender and project requirements and fee estimates.
  11. Administering reporting to line management including monitoring structural design program delivery, resources, and budgets.
  12. Inspiring team members to deliver first-class project performance.
About you

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A bachelor’s or master’s degree in electrical or mechanical engineering, or equivalent.
  • To be an Engineer (C.Eng, I.Eng) or working towards or have experience equivalent to relevant competency requirements.
  • Previous people/line management experience.
  • Strong management and co-ordination skills.
  • Problem-solving and technical realization skills.
  • Knowledge including statutory processes and technical standards.
  • Understanding of current H&S legislation and the CDM Regulations.
  • Experience of working in a multi-disciplinary environment.
