Job Description

Queen’s University seek to recruit a Co-Ordinator to plan and supervise a 7 week safe, progressive and enjoyable programme to children of all ages and abilities in the Queen’s Sport Summer Activity Scheme. You will plan and supervise Team Leaders and Activity Leaders to implement a programme of activities that will include teaching/coaching a variety of sporting and non-sporting activities. You will liaise with the Participation Sport Development Officers and Operation Teams and create a weekly report regarding the running of the scheme.

You will oversee the supervision and safeguarding of children participating in the scheme, overseeing the general safety and behaviour. You be involved in the preparation and delivery of staff training which will involve an element of manual handling, assembling and dismantling the equipment as required for use in activities, safeguarding and First Aid.

You will be customer orientated with good communication skills and you will have the ability to use initiative and work unaccompanied. This is a full-time position from 17 June – 16 August 2024 (inclusive to staff training) and successful candidates will be expected to have availability throughout this period. The post meets the definition of regulated activity and requires an enhanced disclosure check and references.

Children can learn new skills that promote an active lifestyle by providing opportunities to try new sports in a fun and supportive environment. JOB PURPOSE:

To co-ordinate and supervise the delivery of a programme of supervised indoor and outdoor activities, across a variety of sporting and non-sporting themes.

MAIN ACTIVITIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

Plan, develop and implement a programme of supervised indoor and outdoor activities, across a variety of sporting and non-sporting themes.

Lead and supervise Team Leaders, Activity Leaders, Junior Leaders and casual coaches to ensure the delivery of safe, progressive and enjoyable activities suitable for children of all ages and abilities.

Co-ordinate and implement a training programme for Team Leaders and Activity Leaders.

Deal with enquiries from parents and ensure all incidents and accidents are recorded and dealt with following the correct policies and procedures.

Develop staff rotas to ensure the safety of children at all times.

Organise a schedule that will ensure all equipment is set up, dismantled and stored correctly to ensure the health, safety and well being of children and staff.

Undertake training relevant to the post.

Any other relevant duties as may be required for the period of the summer scheme.

To carry out duties in a way as to enhance and protect the reputation and profile of the Queen’s Sport.

PLANNING AND ORGANISING:

Plan, develop and co-ordinate a progressive 7-week programme of sporting and non-sporting activity.

Plan weekly work programmes for team of 4 Team Leaders.

Supervise the delivery of activity sessions to ensure they are being carried out to a high standard.

Co-ordinate the planning of sporting and non-sporting activities for groups of children on a daily / weekly basis.

RESOURCE MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES (e.g. People, Finance, Equipment):

Manage deployment of staff and work programme for Team Leaders on a weekly basis.

Facilitate weekly meetings with all staff

Ensure the safety, health and well-being of children and staff

Ensure minimum standards for safeguarding children and young people are implemented at the scheme

Manage use of equipment inventory

INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL RELATIONSHIPS:

Provide update report to the Development Officer on a regular basis

Liaise with parents on a daily basis.

Communicate / work effectively with Queen’s Sport staff on a regular basis.

Experience / Skills

Previous experience as a Scheme Co-ordinator or Team Leader (for a minimum period of four months in the last two years) and/or relevant experience of organising a large scale activity event.

Previous experience of supervising staff in a children’s scheme or other sporting initiative.

Desirable

Currently involved in coaching children in at least one sport.

Other Skills/Knowledge

Ability to respond clearly to direction.

Ability to provide clear direction and guidance.

Sporting or cultural interests.

Demonstrate good organisational and motivational skills.

Aware of the minimum standards for safeguarding children and young people and impact of delivery of a Summer Scheme programme

Qualifications

Education and Qualifications

A minimum of 5 GCSEs (Grade C or above) or equivalent, including English Language and a mathematical based subject.

Desirable

A sports leader award or coaching award in any sport.

Be a qualified school teacher with a minimum of one year’s teaching experience within the previous five years.

First Aid qualification.

Child protection training.
