Senior Investment Manager – Private Equity for a Single Family Office, London – PLACED

A London-based Single Family Office is looking to hire a ‘Senior Investment Manager – Private Equity’ to join their established entity in London. The position will ultimately report to the CIO and CEO and include interaction with the Principals.

The family office holds an Absolute Return philosophy and invests across all asset classes, with a majority invested in a mature Private Equity portfolio (via both funds and co-investments). The family invests across the entire spectrum of the Private Equity industry from growth through to mega-cap, with a geographical bias to the US, followed by Asia. The office also has a limited number of external LPs investing alongside the family in minority co-investment positions.

To be successful in this role you will have experience sourcing, due diligence, and ultimately selecting managers, funds and co-investments within a Family office or Fund-of-Funds. The candidate will be expected to monitor the existing portfolio, ensuring timely reporting to the Principals and other external stakeholders. They will be flexible and creative in their approach with regards deal structure to ensure the best outcome for the family office.

Having a technical understanding is important but personal and cultural fit is of equal value to the family. The role will be based in London and with some travel expected.

Professional Background:

The successful candidate:

  • will have a strong technical knowledge of all aspects of private markets
  • will have experience of Private Equity and is likely to have been working in another family office, fund-of-funds, private banking or private equity.
  • will have an in-depth knowledge of the intricacies of Private Equity fund reporting and KPIs.
  • will have extensive experience in the investment or financial industry, with a strong preference for experience in a family office or dealing with UHNW individuals.
  • a relevant professional qualification such as CFA Charterholder or Chartered Accountancy is preferred but not required.
  • must be proactive and a self-starter but equally at home as part of a wider team.
  • A minimum of 12-15 years of relevant professional experience in another family office, fund-of-funds, private banking or private equity.
  • Sound judgement and track record of analysing potential new investment opportunities and assessing risks and opportunities.
  • Knowledge and experience of a wide range of Managers and GPs
  • Experienced with financial models for valuations and financial returns analysis

Responsibilities:

Primary responsibilities of the role will include:

  • Analysing and evaluating new managers, funds and potential co-investment opportunities.
  • Analysing, monitoring and reporting on the existing portfolio.
  • Benchmarking existing and prospective fund managers against their peers.
  • Reviewing allocations and liquidity risk.
  • Completing investment recommendations for presentation at the Investment Committee and twice-yearly Trust Meetings.
  • Deal execution – documentation, liaising with legal teams, external parties, etc.
  • Representing the family on LP Advisory Committees and company Boards, where relevant.
  • Finally, the successful applicant will have the flexibility to undertake a variety of duties and additional responsibilities as, and when, necessary.
