The post holder assists the registered nurse to provide basic care within an agreed range of care duties in relation to a patient or group of patient. Although care may be delegated to healthcare assistants, the registered nurse is responsible to ensure the competency of the healthcare assistant to whom care is delegated, remains accountable both for the care provided and for the supervision. While the healthcare assistant will not always work under direct and immediate supervision, the task done must be within the framework of a plan of care. He/she is expected to be an effective member of the ward/department team and contribute to the best possible use of resources.

Croydon Health Services NHS Trust provide hospital and community services from a number of community and specialist clinics throughout Croydon. The Trust was formed on 1st August 2010 through the integration of Croydon Community Health Services and Mayday Healthcare NHS Trust. Our main hospital site, Croydon University Hospital is one of the busiest in London. Person specification Educational Qualifications
  • General education, including Maths and English GCSE grade C or above (or equivalent)
  • The Care Certificate
  • NVQ Level 3 Health and Social Care Qualification
Experience
  • Able to demonstrate clear and robust verbal and written English communication skills
  • Experience of working as part of a team
  • Previous experience in a hospital setting
  • Previous care work experience
Knowledge
  • Must understand basic requirements for individualised personal care
  • Recognise people’s right to privacy and dignity, treating every person with respect
  • Basic IT Skills
