Scotland, United Kingdom Altrad UK, Ireland & Nordics Full time

Project Commissioning Manager (Principal Commissioning Engineer)

The Asset Management function within Altrad Babcock is a highly specialised engineering services and equipment provider, supporting customers to minimise cost, maximise return and mitigate risk through their asset integrity lifecycle. We are recruiting exceptional candidates to join our mission in becoming a fully certified Asset Management engineering services provider of both consultancy and integrated projects, across future global low carbon energy and infrastructure markets.

On of the key roles of the Plant Performance and Operations team within our Asset Management business area is to provide the commissioning, start-up, and operation support to the business’s various projects. Within this team we have an opportunity for a Project Commissioning Manager. A key requirement of this role is to have the flexibility to travel and work on sites primarily in the UK but also, as required, overseas.

The role reports directly into the Performance & Operation General Manager. As a Project Commissioning Manager, the main responsibility will be to lead and manage all the commissioning activities for a given project. During the project engineering design & procurement phases, the role will require the development of the commissioning execution plan, programme, commissioning procedures, and client training plan. Interfacing with the engineering design team and participation in key design reviews such as P&ID, equipment layout, and HAZOP studies will also be required to ensure that the commissioning requirements are incorporated into the design of the facility. When the project moves to the site execution phase, the role will be to lead and manage the safe commissioning execution of the work undertaken by your site commissioning team and sub-contractors to achieve the project goals.

The successful candidate will hold a bachelor’s degree or HNC in Mechanical/Process/EC&I Engineering and have extensive experience in the site commissioning and management of large process engineering projects including hydrocarbon systems. Self-motivation and drive, team leadership and management, and effective personal time management are key qualities required. A significant level of experience will be required on the systems completion process including systemisation and mechanical completion, commissioning & start-up planning, systems walkdown & punch-list management. Practical experience on the set-up and operation of a completion management system will be required. Leading the project commissioning activities will require the ability to manage the site commissioning costs in line with program budgets and reported as necessary, while ensure that all personnel, commercial and technical problems, or potential problems are identified and dealt with professionally and promptly, minimising the Company’s exposure to risk and safeguarding Client relationships.

In return you will be involved in innovative projects that present creative and technical challenges, you will be joining a supportive work environment that encourages skill development and career growth and give you the opportunity to contribute to projects with significant social and environmental impacts.

As an employer, Altrad Babcock can offer unrivalled career opportunities across the UK. Our Nuclear, Thermal, Petrochemical, Oil & Gas, Energy and Asset Management services, deliver equally crucial work for an ever-wider range of clients. As a business, we can offer opportunities across multiple markets, sectors, and geographies, giving you the chance to work on some of the UK’s most complex and challenging projects, as a part of the ever growing and ever talented, Altrad Babcock team.
