Overview

As a QA Engineer at Arqit, you’ll join a diverse team with opportunities to develop both technical and leadership skills. You will join one of our multi-functional scrum teams who take responsibility for software delivery from requirements through to deployment, following best engineering practices. As part of this team, you will provide QA input, ensuring that quality is built into the software from an early stage by engaging in the BDD process, building out test plans and then ensuring completion and signoff of testing ahead of release. As well as manually executing tests for new features, you will automate these tests, learning new skills and technologies where needed to do so. Exploratory testing will also be a significant part of your remit, ensuring that our releases are ready for customer use.

There will also be the opportunity to gain experience within different Arqit projects, allowing further growth opportunities through exposure to different technologies and problem domains.

What you'll be doing
  • Operating in a multi-functional Agile team, working alongside developers, and collaborating closely with Architects, DevOps, UX, Product and Engineering Management.
  • Providing QA support for the team in development of public and private cloud deployments, cloud APIs, client SDKs, applications and software for a variety of platforms.
  • Using a risk-based testing approach, analyse software changes to identify areas for in-depth exploratory testing, defining an exploratory testing plan, executing the plan and raising bugs.
  • Working with the team to apply BDD, and based on resulting scenarios, defining suitable acceptance tests for each feature epic in the backlog before implementation.
  • Gating completion of feature epics based on successful execution of acceptance tests.
  • Automation of system test cases to ensure efficiency for continuous regression testing.
  • Execution and analysis of automation test suites, both functional and non-functional tests to ensure continuing correctness, stability and performance.
  • Peer review of test plans, test cases and automation produced by other engineers.
  • Produce test plans and carry out release testing, verifying complete execution of test plans as well as performing exploratory testing.
  • Raising defects in JIRA, and verifying the fixes.
  • Participation in all Agile ceremonies with the team to aid accurate planning, monitoring of progress and continuous improvement of our development processes and practice.
  • Collaborate with the QA engineering organization to ensure alignment, consistency and shared learning across the team.
  • Working with the Product Management team to help refine requirements and workflows, and use your customer focus to ensure world-class UX.
  • Investigating internal or customer related issues, identifying root cause and providing solutions.
  • Mentoring and coaching less experienced colleagues to help them realise their potential.
  • Reviewing technical documentation for usability, accuracy and correctness.

  • Educated with a computer science or related higher-level qualification, that gives you a broad understanding of software development and testing principles, e.g. Bachelor’s/Master’s degree or apprenticeship.
  • Experienced in executing manual test plans as well as doing exploratory testing, with an understanding of the testing principles involved.
  • Capable of test automation, having used at least one test automation framework in your previous QA roles.
  • Familiar with testing at the API layer.
