English Teacher Job Overview

Academics, a top teaching agency, is currently seeking an experienced English Teacher with a focus on EAL support on behalf of a secondary school in Sheffield. This temporary position, covering a long-term sickness absence, offers a meaningful opportunity to help students develop their English language skills in a structured and supportive school environment.

About the English Teacher Role

As an English Teacher for EAL, you'll provide essential support to students with English as an Additional Language (EAL) by delivering focused reading, writing, and speaking guidance in small groups and 1-1 sessions. You'll also lead full classes, teaching the English national curriculum to Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 students. By adapting lessons to meet varied language abilities, you'll make a lasting impact on students' academic success.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver focused EAL support through small-group and individual sessions to build students' language skills.
  • Teach full classes, delivering the English curriculum to KS3 and KS4 pupils.
  • Tailor lesson plans to address diverse levels of language proficiency.
  • Foster a positive, well-managed learning environment with strong behaviour management skills.
  • Track and assess student progress, adapting lessons as needed.
  • Collaborate with school staff to implement consistent EAL support strategies.

Requirements

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent in English.
  • Experience teaching the English national curriculum, with confidence leading full classes.
  • Strong behaviour management abilities; experience in challenging school settings preferred.
  • Enhanced DBS certificate (or willingness to apply).
  • Ability to commute to secondary schools within Sheffield.
  • Experience working with EAL students is advantageous.
