The Solution Group are currently seeking an experienced Design Manager to join a leading UK specialist façade contractor. This role is based in their design office in Essex.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide support and guidance to other members of the design team.
  • Supervise and produce detailed construction drawings.
  • Liaise with clients to proactively address any discrepancies within project documentation.
  • Prepare design budgets for inclusion in tender submissions.
  • Produce, monitor, and adjust designs as required.
  • Allocate and adjust staff and sub-contracted resources to ensure design output meets project requirements.
  • Understand the design output requirements of projects, including the selection of suitable materials and systems, national and international standards, building regulations, and manufacturer’s recommendations.
  • Consider project-specific design in respect of statutory obligations under CDM regulations.
  • Liaise with external consultants and sub-contract designers to ensure timely and efficient design output.
  • Contribute to the prompt resolution of design-related problems on contracts, providing solutions and technical assistance to preconstruction, operations, and commercial departments.
  • Identify training requirements and development opportunities for the design department.

Skills and Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar role within the glazing & façade industry.
  • Demonstrated experience in the successful delivery of curtain walling, structural glazing, windows, doors, and rainscreen cladding systems.
  • Broad technical knowledge of the construction process.
  • Detailed understanding of current construction techniques.
  • Proficiency in producing 2D drawings using AutoCAD.
  • Commercial awareness.
  • Experienced in the use of Microsoft Office suite.
  • Strong IT proficiency.
  • Attention to detail and ability to resolve design issues.
  • Ability to effectively plan jobs and efficiently allocate resources.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Resilience and tenacity.
