About the role

Due to a huge period of growth within BSI underpinned by a large scale, business wide technology transformation, we are excited to be looking for an Enterprise Applications Architect to join team.

You will report into the Head of Enterprise Architecture and work directly under the defined strategy and scope of the IT Strategy and Architecture Director.

Our Enterprise Applications Architect is pivotal in ensuring that BSI gains the maximum strategic advantage from technology investment by:

  • Having a wealth across the application lifecycle, from strategy through waterfall and agile implementation to operations, support and decommissioning.
  • Understanding the way in SaaS platforms are kept evergreen within an application landscape
  • Having detailed practical knowledge of the organisation's IT infrastructure and software development and architecture application models, standards, tools and techniques.
  • Being conversant with the organisation's IT strategy, policies and standards. Have a sound knowledge of risk assessment, change management, configuration management, reliability and safety methods and the use of metrics.
  • Communicating persuasively and effectively to senior leaders and project teams
  • Appreciating the importance of commercial constraints

Responsibilities:

• Accountable for creating, iterating and maintaining the enterprise application architectures aligning to the key principles, methods and models that describe the organisation’s future state, and that enable its evolution

• Responsible for defining how we keep our application suites and ecosystems up-to-date and developing plans and roadmaps for applications, application suites and roadmaps

• Responsible for advising users on forthcoming functionality and how to take advantage of it and of emerging technologies and their potential impacts, threats and opportunities

• Accountable for identifying strategic new and emerging technologies, products, services, methods and techniques, and assessing their potential impact upon BSI’s strategic goals, threats and risks

• Responsible for ensuring the design of systems meet specific requirements, compatible with agreed systems architectures, adhering to corporate standards and regulations and within constraints of performance and feasibility

• Accountable for the development of organisational wide policies, standards, guidelines, and methods for systems design. Drives adoption of and adherence to relevant policies, standards, strategies and architectures.

• Leads the development of effective application investment and implementation strategies, consistent with specified requirements, architectures and constraints of performance and feasibility.

• Uses new approaches, proposals and technologies to build a credible application strategy, building on understanding of business needs, the existing IT capabilities and future requirements, marrying all relevant organisation objectives with achievable IT goals.

• Accountable for plans detailing the transition and implementation plans of authorised new applications and infrastructure support, identifying budgetary, legislative, regulatory, policy, technical and staffing constraints, and clearly showing costs and expected benefits. Plans include identification and assessment of business risks.

To be successful in the role:

• Demonstrates an understanding of strategic issues and is an authority on the systems development lifecycle and typical problems associated with the implementation of information systems, from initial concept through development and implementation to operation and support.

• Has detailed practical knowledge of the organisation's IT infrastructure and software development and maintenance methods, tools and techniques.

• Is conversant with the organisation's IT strategy, policies and standards. Sound knowledge of risk assessment, change management, configuration management, reliability and safety methods and the use of metrics.

• Is skilled in project risk management.

• Shows evidence of analytical ability and attention to detail. Appreciates the importance of commercial constraints. Has a comprehensive knowledge of all stages of systems development, from specification to implementation.

• Combines technical competence with business and commercial awareness and first-class communications skills. Possesses some knowledge of all types of information systems and detailed knowledge of more than one type.

• Acquiring understanding and insights regarding the underlying issues in complex problems or situations through the development of abstract representations, the identification of patterns and the analysis of hypotheses.

• Keeping organisational objectives and strategies in mind and ensuring courses of action are aligned with the strategic context.

• Typically educated to bachelor degree level or equivalent

• TOGAF Certified

• Certificate in Enterprise and Solution Architecture (Practitioner)
