Band 5 Occupational Therapist - Bromley Stroke community
We are looking for a highly motivated, enthusiastic, caring Band 5 Occupational therapist to fill a position within the Bromley Stroke Rehabilitation Team (BSRT).
This is a specialist multidisciplinary team which provides a service to adults within Bromley. The team consists of Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Speech and Language Therapists, Specialist Nurse, Clinical Psychologist Care manager and rehabilitation support workers all providing a goal focused rehabilitation service to patient's in their own homes.
The successful candidate must have experience in core areas of occupational therapy, have some experience within neurology and show insight into community working. They must be dynamic and flexible to the workload fluctuations.
You will receive support from experienced Band 6 and 7 Occupational therapists and other therapy professionals and have a chance to develop your skills whilst working innovatively with patients, their carers and a wide range of other agencies.

To provide Occupational Therapy input to a multidisciplinary, client focused therapy service for adults who have had a stroke upon discharge from hospital. This may be within their own homes or community settings.

~ To undertake assessment and treatment of clients with a wide range of physical and cognitive disabilities arising from a stroke. To determine the occupational therapy treatment indicated and to maintain records, as an autonomous practitioner.

~ To participate in the development of the multidisciplinary Stroke Rehabilitation Team so that it continues to meet the needs of the client group and responds to Government initiatives.

To provide occasional weekend working to support ESD pathway if requested
To maintain and record on going continuing professional development, through formal peer review and using a professional portfolio.
To read relevant journals and research papers and participate in appropriate work related research/evaluation projects.
To attend training courses, participate in experiential learning as identified in PDR and impart information to colleagues.
To take part in internal and external working parties to develop clinical and policy changes within the Stroke Rehabilitation team
To organise and manage appropriate delegation of patient care/ work to the Rehabilitation assistants.
To provide accurate and complete data for audit and evaluation purposes.
To ensure all equipment defects, accidents and complaints are reported to the Team Leader
To be responsible, with other staff, to see that local procedures required under the Health and Safety Act, COSHH Regulations, Fire Safety, the Consumer Protection Act, the Data Protection Act and Access to Health Records Act are complied with.
To clinically supervise and support rehabilitation assistants and ensure they are able to achieve their learning objectives.
To take clinical responsibility for the occupational therapy input to the rehabilitative treatment programmes provided to clients within their own homes or community.
To respect clients' dignity, privacy, culture and wishes during treatment, with a commitment to equal access to occupational therapy.
To undertake assessments of clients with a wide range of disabilities arising from having a stroke, who may have complex needs and/or multiple pathology, to determine the occupational therapy treatment indicated.
To communicate and negotiate with individual clients and all those involved in the clients care, to gain consent to and understanding of treatment programmes to ensure that occupational therapy treatment is effective. To maintain clinical expertise and interest in stroke rehabilitation using national standards and guidance to contribute to the development of new ways of working for these specific client groups.
To keep accurate written records of assessment and treatment in accordance with standards set, and to input data onto Team computer database.
To participate as appropriate in discharge planning.
To attend case conferences and other meetings, as appropriate.
To maintain and develop close links with colleagues in the Acute sector, Local Authority Services, Voluntary Organisations and other members of Primary Health Care Services.
Education/Training
To provide training for the carers of clients and participate in training with other members of the Stroke Rehabilitation Team.
To carry out risk assessments and advise relevant others in safe and appropriate moving and handling techniques as necessary.
To organise, deliver and participate in training through In-service training programmes with other Occupational Therapists across Lewisham & Greenwich NHS Trust.
To have in-put into the clinical placements of occupational therapy students on placement within the Team.

Qualifications & Training
Diploma / Degree in Occupational Therapy.
Undertaken a range of relevant postgraduate courses / Preceptorship

A broad range of undergraduate experience in all core specialities of Occupational Therapy
Previous experience at band 5 level
Experience of participating in audit and evidence based projects.
Evidence of actively participating in in-service training and MDT groups, and evaluating effectiveness of training
An understanding of evidenced based practice pertaining to Occupational Therapy
Awareness of national guidelines and standards relevant to Occupational Therapy
Understanding of clinical governance and its implication for Occupational Therapy
Understanding of the legal responsibilities of the profession
