Job Description

The key purpose of the role is to lead the engineering team from the front-line to deliver exceptional standards to all guests in the hotel. This includes maintaining the building, exterior and physical plant with particular attention towards safety, security, and asset protection.
The role takes lead accountability for Health and Safety in the building.
The Chief Engineer will take a strategic overview of the business and will support the rest of the team in ensuring timeframes and standards are achieved.

• Accountable for managing the budget, capital expenditure projects, preventative maintenance and energy conservation.
• Responsible for maintaining regulatory Health and Safety requirements.
• Assists in leading the emergency response team for all facility issues.
• To ensure the required five-star Grand Standards are achieved.
• Support a highly motivated and trained staff that continually strives for excellence in service and standards of repairs and preventative measures.

Specific job-related duties
• Responsible for managing of equipment, refrigeration, HVAC, plumbing, water treatment and electrical systems.
• Ensures regulatory compliance to facility regulations and safety standards.
• Manages and controls heat, light and power and identifies best methods for energy conservation and economical facility operations.
• Builds and maintains relationships with contractors and maintenance contracts to ensure smooth running of the department and business.
• Develops a long-term plan for preventative maintenance and asset protection and overseeing execution of plan.
• Distributes preventive maintenance and repair work orders and monitors timeliness and quality of completion.
• Oversees and directs the maintenance of exterior, guestrooms, public space & restaurants.
• Contacts contractors for bids and supervising construction to ensure timely completion of projects within budgetary guidelines.
• Builds positive relationships with external contractors.
• Performs monthly property inspection to ensure buildings and grounds are maintained in excellent condition.
• Conducts guest room and common area inspection to ensure guest satisfaction.
• Inspects and evaluates the physical condition of facilities in order to determine the type of work required.
• Recommends or arranges for additional services such as painting, repair work, renovations, and the replacement of furnishings and equipment.
• Selects and orders or purchasing new equipment, supplies, and furnishings.
• Manages parts and equipment inventory.

People
• Demonstrate commitment to our purpose and way, model professional ethics and conduct.
• Maintain good working relationships with colleagues and support across the hotel.
• Be responsible for your own personal development at work and strive to be the best in what you do, taking care and pride in your work.
• Fully accountable for team members within the unit in terms of recruitment, performance management, reviews
• Liaise with the People Department any issues which may be classed as high risk.
• Identify training needs within the team and deliver or source appropriate training.
• Ensure all members are aware of current developments within the hotel.
• Display a pro-active and leading role in terms of service, culture, development, team image, systems, procedures and skills development.

Service & Quality
• Ensure our guests receive an extraordinary experience.
• Anticipate guests’ needs and provide service to exceed their expectations.
• Take appropriate action with regards to guest feedback and utilise the metrics available to develop products and services
• Comply with brand, hotel and department operating standards,
• Work safely at all times, reporting any damage, wear or tear and understand departmental risk assessments.

Financial
• Prepare and manage departmental budgets.
• Be fully aware of all the hotel facilities and promote them whenever possible.
• Ensure your team follow cash handling and credit procedures and rectify discrepancies.
• Be directly involved in developing and executing revenue strategies and sales initiatives – whilst continually developing your teams to do the same.
• Co-ordinate and control with initiative all issues relating to costs, expenses, wastage, breakages, security and stock control.
• Pro-actively pursue all practices in-line with company environmental and energy saving initiatives.

Strategic
• Take a pro-active approach to ensuring the continued long-term success of the company.
• Manage any key strategic priorities ensuring effective leadership of any working party; clear, concise and timely communication to all stakeholders; development and management of associated timelines; delivery of work streams in line with agreed deadlines.
• Work with key stakeholders to drive improvements to the business.
• To effectively manage relationships with any agreed external contacts, professional advisors and official bodies

General
• Comply with the Splendid Hospitality Handbook at all times.
• Produce reports as required in line with current guidelines.
• Attend business reviews as appropriate and actively contribute to all forums.
Perform other tasks as directed by your line manager in pursuit of the achievement of business goal.
• Work as part of a diverse team with colleagues from different cultures and countries
• Understand your role and responsibilities in terms of the hotel Health & Safety Policy including completion of all mandatory training.
• Familiarise yourself with emergency & evacuation procedures and understand your responsibilities with regards to security
