The role…

We are currently recruiting for a Head of Stage Engineering for the Gillian Lynne Theatre, soon to be home to ‘The Wizard ofOz and the RSC’s ‘My Neighbour Totoro’. You will be instrumental indriving strategy and culture in the Stage Department at this iconic venue,ensuring we continually stage the extraordinary in conjunction with ourvisiting productions. In this varied role, you will manage the delivery ofrehearsals and performances of resident productions and concerts as well as themaintenance of the technical theatre infrastructure.

Through the leadership of a diverse and multi-skilled team, you will providethe highest standard of customer experience to our resident production andbreak new ground in our industry.

What you’ll be doing…

• Workingclosely with the Technical & Building Services Manager, along with the Headof Electrics you will:
• Champion and drive a positive approach to Health & Safety, proactively supporting the practical application of LW Theatres H&S Policy.
• Proactively review RAMs, Method Statements, SSOW and COSHH to ensure they are relevant and up to date.
• Attend and contribute to six monthly H&S meetings with the theatre and resident production.
• Attend inspections conducted by Camden Council, Insurers and service providers ensuring compliance.
• Keep up to date with current and emerging technical developments and legislation.
• Assist Technical & Building Services Manager in leading the advance planning of all productions.
• Ensure Construction Phase Plans and Production H&S file is in place for all productions.
• Ensure trucking/parking arrangements are in place and trucks are loaded/unloaded with consideration for the Theatre’s neighbours.
• Liaise with Production Managers in relation to reinstatement post production, ensuring LW Theatres interests are safeguarded.
• Oversee the recruitment of Stage Production Technicians and maintain appropriate staffing levels.
• Create a high-performance culture in the team; setting clear objectives, providing ongoing feedback, identifying relevant training for the team and ensure they complete mandatory and developmental training provided by LW Theatres.
• Ensure the team deliver the highest technical standards of customer service to the resident production and visiting companies, recognising, and balancing their needs with those of the LW Theatres.
• Efficiently manage the teams’ hours to meet requirements, being mindful of the Working Time Directive and the maximum working hours permitted in LW Theatres H&S Policy.
• Meet regularly with the visiting company stage management team to discuss developmental needs of show staff within their plots to maintain highest standards.
• Along with the Technical & Building Services Manager deliver a maintenance and inspection regime for all technical theatre infrastructure inc. arranging inspections, analysing reports, and taking appropriate action, record keeping and ensure compliance responsibilities are completed in line with LW portals.
• Source the best commercial deals for the Company and regularly review the costs and quality of service.
• Alongside the venues maintenance team undertake tasks to improve the venue and stage infrastructure.
• Ensure backstage areas are kept tidy, maintained, and ensure excellent standard of general housekeeping is sustained.
• Provide Site Access Authorisation and QR codes for inductions for visiting companies and contractors.
• Ensure there is excellent communication and collaboration all other departments in the Theatre.

What we need…
• Extensivepractical and operational knowledge of technical theatre systems, Inc:
• Operation and maintenance of automated systems.
• Flying and maintaining double/single purchase counterweight systems.
• Have theoretical and practical rigging knowledge of LOLER regulations.
• Confidentworking with Production Managers and experienced in driving large scaleload-ins and loads-outs.
• Broad knowledgeof the Health & Safety and Licensing requirements associated withtheatrical management.
• Awareness of Construction and Design Management 2015 and Technical Standardsfor Places of Entertainment.
• Excellent verbal communication skills and the ability to build relationships with producingcompanies.
• Experience of overseeingadditional events, concerts, TV or touring productions on top of residentproductions.
• Commercial awareness; able to negotiate supplier quotes and work to strict budgets.
• Experience of leading, motivating and instructing a technical team.
• Can identify training needs within a stage department and ensure the technicalcompetence of a team.
• Can adapt to continually changing circumstances and overcome challenges.
• Experience of successfully delivering projects and working under pressure.
• Willingness to challenge existing working methods and to introduce newworking practices.

Salary: £21.03 per hour - as per SOLT / BECTUagreement. Plus an additional payment of £123.25 per week (to be discussed at interview).
