We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Embedded Software Engineer to join our existing team at/in our Head office Product Development team.
The Senior Embedded Software Engineer working within the Product Development team, designing complex real time embedded software system architectures including control integration with electromechanical systems to support new and existing products. The role requires a close working relationship with mechanical and electronics engineers, as well as the understanding and appreciation of electronics and mechanical designs. You will be required to be the project lead software expert, able to propose, define, design, and deploy software systems that work seamlessly with the other parts of the system. You will be expected to play an active role in system design, such as evaluating and selecting appropriate processors and other devices and conceiving and proving control applications and be responsible for providing innovative software design solutions within Steeper’s development of mechatronic upper limb prosthetic products.
5+ years’ experience with C / C++ in embedded systems.
~ Experience of mechatronics - managing live sensor data and motor control.
~ You would be working alongside electronic and mechanical engineers every day, owning all aspects of code development - specifications, design, testing, release management, understanding of electronic schematics etc…
~ A thoughtful communicator who is happy being the only software engineer in the room and can present their work to non-expert audiences.
~ Experience setting briefs for contractors / consultants.
Experience with App development (iOS and Android).
Creation of Windows based Apps to support product development.
Support & maintain current software applications used in Product Development, Upper limb and Assistive Living products as required.
Lead creation of Software specification documentation and create software/hardware specifications and validation as required for Steeper NPI and existing products.
Documented design review and risk based (FMEA) for software activity.
Support Product Development and Production teams with any test / validation equipment designs that can be used as part of new product introduction (NPI) to aid testing, recording and traceability for new and existing products.
Use of change control and internal testing to document and validate / verify any software required change(s).

HNC/D or Degree in Software Engineering is preferred or demonstrable equivalent experience.
In-depth understanding of Solidworks design package, CREO and Windchill.
Experience in risk management tools such as DFMEA and PFMEA.
