An exciting opportunity has arisen for a proactive Tenant and Landlord Engagement Officer to join a North London local authority. This role is integral to the council’s corporate plan, aiming to provide a safe place called home and stand up for private renters. The successful candidate will be at the forefront of improving the management of privately rented homes within the borough through effective engagement and advocacy.

Day-to-day of the role:
  • Develop opportunities across the council to engage with tenants and landlords with the aim of improving the management of privately rented homes.
  • Provide advice, advocacy, and assistance to tenants on their rights and responsibilities and to landlords/letting agents on their rights and obligations.
  • Organise meetings, groups, and other platforms with internal and external stakeholders involved in private rented housing to promote good practice.
  • Establish and promote the Landlords Forum.
  • Lead on consultation & research to identify & assess the views & priorities of stakeholders, developing strategies for landlord and tenant engagement.
  • Play a proactive role in the development of policies and procedures impacting private sector tenants and landlords.
  • Identify external funding opportunities & ensure timely bids are made to maximise resources.
  • Initiate campaigns and publicity concerning the private rented sector to promote quality, safety, and security.
  • Design new ways to engage with landlords and tenants and make recommendations to the management team.
  • Act as the authority’s expert in matters of landlord and tenant law, carry out casework and provide support to tenants to ensure their rights are protected.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
  • Experience in tenant and landlord engagement or a similar role within a local authority or housing organisation.
  • Knowledge of landlord and tenant law.
  • Strong communication and organisational skills.
  • Ability to provide advice and advocacy to a diverse range of stakeholders.
  • Experience in organising meetings and events.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Experience in policy development and conducting research.
  • Ability to identify funding opportunities and prepare bids.
