This year, Procare Community Services (PCS) have 3 places for secondment on the District Nurse Specialist Practice Qualification (SPQ) course across Guildford and Waverley in Surrey. The course is a Post graduate diploma at Level 7. During the course, students are paid Band 6 Agenda for Change, and subject to interview and successful completion of the SPQ, our District Nurses are band 7.
The course starts with Surrey University in September 2024 and includes a combination of 50% academic theory and 50% clinical practice placement and will required self-directed study. The course timetable Over the 52 weeks students will have support from a practice assessor from PCS and a University personal tutor with seven set week’s holiday.
Modules include Introduction to Public Health, Advancing Practice in Long term conditions, Essentials of Specialist Practice and Health assessment, Patient safety, quality and risk, V300 independent prescribing, Research and Leadership. The V300 independent prescribing module is an optional module, if this flow is not undertaken, there will be an optional module to choose alongside Advanced Medicines Management.
The post holder follow the University of Surrey District Nursing Specialist Practice Qualification (DN SPQ) programme. They will work under the direction and supervision of a Procare Community Services Community Practice Assessor / Supervisor and will be supported by a personal tutor from the University of Surrey for the duration of the 12 month programme.
To deliver Community nursing care in accordance with national and local policy and guidance and in accordance with the Nursing and Midwifery Council while working towards the DN SPQ.
The Procare Chief Operating Officer is a Nurse by background, who has a real passion for all aspects of Community working. Our board is clinically led with a Director of Nursing and GPs who have vast community experience, ensuring that Procare has the expertise and knowledge base needed to develop sustainable integrated services.
With a strong emphasis on high-quality care, patient safety, and a positive patient and carer experience as the core of our strategy, our goal is to ensure excellent care for our local community. We are an innovative, ambitious, friendly, and supportive local team. We take pride in our clinically led and flat management structure, which ensures transparent leadership from all directors. We are in search of an individual with the requisite skills and attributes, someone who is pragmatic and solution-focused, and who desires to be a part of our local Community Nursing Services.
The post holder will work towards the completion of DN SPQ academic modules and practice hours as part of the Community nursing team under the direction of a qualified District Nurse to deliver nursing care and treatment autonomously to patients within their own home setting where health and / or wellbeing would be compromised by travel
• The post holder will visit adult patients in their own home who have an identified nursing need including those with a long-term condition, complex care needs and needing care at home and at the end of life for physical and symptomatic nursing care
• The post holder will use an electronic patient held record system, EMIS as a record of care and all our nurses are provided with a work Iphone and Ipad for mobile working
• The post holder must be available for the full 52 weeks of the year and are expected to attend all taught components of the course and the required practice placement hours, Monday to Sunday.
Registered Level 1 Nurse with current Nursing and Midwifery Council registration
This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service.
