Your role

The position reports to the Regional Operations Lead and drives the Energy Efficiency standards, policies and governance for the Digital Realty Operational Teams.
The Regional Energy Efficiency Manager works with sub-regional operations teams, suppliers, sub-contractors to implement energy efficiency and sustainable practices. Internal contacts with Global and Regional Operations teams and DE&C

The Regional Energy Efficiency Manager plays a crucial role in developing and executing strategies to reduce environmental impact, enhance energy performance, and drive sustainability initiatives.
The Regional Energy Efficiency Manager makes sure the design and build out projects in EMEA and related activities are fully aligned with the DE&C activities.

What you'll do

Regional Technical expert:

  • Responsible for maintaining and develop together with the DE&C functional leads corporate standards, procedures and work processes in relation to mechanical equipment and requirements.
  • Ensuring DC standards are followed across the EMEA, using the same equipment, suppliers etc. to have an identical look and feel for our customers.
  • Ensuring efficient corporate standards are followed which supports lower building costs and use of newest technology within the Mechanical field of expertise.
  • Building a close cooperation with the Procurement department in EMEA to assess costing, lead times and quality.
  • Provides technical management of external/internal engineering consultants.
  • Understands and on request can validates Capex budget for data center expansion, retrofits and new builds.
  • Monitor and analyse energy consumption trends across regional data centres. Identify opportunities for cost savings through energy efficiency measures.
  • Implement measures to enhance operational efficiency and reduce energy waste.
  • Stay abreast of emerging technologies related to energy-efficient data centre operations.
  • Evaluate and integrate innovative solutions to improve overall efficiency.

Technical expert towards local organizations:

  • Adviser and part of the approval governance for local build out, refurb and maintenance activities
  • Reviewer, advisor of build out business cases incl. procurement, agreement with suppliers etc.
  • Technical reviewer and. advisor on mechanical activities/equipment in design, build and commissioning phases.
  • Provides technical management of external/internal engineering consultants.
  • Leads and support research in new technologies and processes as member of key development projects.
  • When changes in a data center are contemplated, prepare analyses of the current situation and the potential impact of the change. Provides detailed guidelines to the local operations team on implementing the change.
  • Periodically reviews and updates all stakeholders in response to lessons learned on designs/constructions, field experience and technical development.
  • Undertakes availability and reliability studies to identify and address design issues that could make data centers vulnerable to outages.
  • Investigates/troubleshoots technical incidents, reports findings and recommendations to local Operations staff, evaluates possible impact on other data centers and disseminates experience.
  • Set annual targets with data centre operations

Energy Management:

  • Identify, evaluate, and implement energy-saving initiatives to optimize energy consumption in our data center operations.
  • Conduct regular energy audits and assessments to identify areas for improvement.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to implement energy-efficient technologies and practices.
  • Develop and implement strategies to reduce energy consumption and increase energy efficiency.
  • Evaluate and recommend the adoption of renewable energy sources and technologies.

Sustainability Strategy:

  • Formulate and implement sustainability initiatives and programs aligned with Global Digital Realty goals.
  • Establish sustainability benchmarks and key performance indicators (KPIs) to track progress.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate sustainability principles into daily operations.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive sustainability strategy for our data center operations.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends and best practices in energy management and sustainability.
  • Drive the integration of sustainable practices into daily operations and long-term planning.
  • Explore and implement strategies for integrating renewable energy sources into data center operations.
  • Evaluate the feasibility of onsite renewable energy projects.

Regulatory Compliance:

  • Stay informed about relevant environmental regulations and ensure compliance
  • Work closely with regulatory agencies to obtain necessary permits and approvals.

Data Analysis and Reporting:

  • Collect, analyze, and report data related to energy consumption, emissions, and sustainability metrics.
  • Prepare regular reports for management, highlighting achievements, challenges, and areas for improvement.

Stakeholder Engagement:

  • Engage with internal and external stakeholders to promote awareness and understanding of sustainability initiatives.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including facility management, IT, and engineering, to ensure compliance with energy efficiency programs.
  • Collaborate with suppliers, contractors, and partners to enhance sustainability practices throughout the supply chain jointly with the DE&C functional leads.

Staff Training and Awareness:

  • Develop and deliver training programs to educate staff on energy conservation and sustainability practices.
  • Foster a culture of sustainability and environmental responsibility within the local Digital Realty organization.

What you'll need

  • WO education (Masters) in mechanical Engineering
  • Strong mathematical background on WO (masters) level
  • Proficient in English - other main languages as well is a plus.
  • 10 years' experience working within mechanical engineering.
  • Holds more than 5 years' experience in engineering and construction projects.
  • Basic understanding of building management systems, mechanical engineering and civil structures and architectures is desirable.
  • Solid understanding of design, build and commission DCs, proven by results High motivation level and appetite for fast-paced team environment; readily adaptable to changing market and organizational requirements.
  • Bachelor's degree in environmental science, Engineering, Sustainability, or related field. Master's degree is a plus.
  • Proven experience in energy management, sustainability, or related roles, with a focus on data center operations.
  • Strong knowledge of energy efficiency technologies and renewable energy solutions.
  • Familiarity with relevant regulations and standards in the energy and environmental field.
  • Excellent data analysis and reporting skills.
  • Strong multi-tasking, prioritization, and project management skills
  • Ability to travel as required.
