Job Description

SSQ has been instructed by a leading US law firm who seek to hire a risk & compliance lawyer to join the international compliance function in London.

In this role, you will provide comprehensive regulatory compliance and risk support to the Office of the General Counsel, while collaborating closely with the global Client Intake teams.

The Role

Reporting to the Compliance Director, you will play a crucial role in driving excellence in risk management and compliance. The Risk & Compliance Lawyer will manage internal controls and risk management to meet regulatory requirements such as SRA Code of Conduct, Money Laundering Regulations, Conflicts, Bribery Act, and Data Protection Act. You will also handle breach reporting, and engage with regulatory authorities. There will also be an opportunity to create and implement risk management tools, advise the Information Security Committee, and provide regulatory support for the firm's offices internationally.

Experience Required

  • Minimum graduate-level education with qualification as a Solicitor in England & Wales.
  • Ideally, previous practice experience within a law firm or regulatory authority, strongly preferred.
  • Extensive senior-level expertise in law firm compliance and governance.
  • In-depth understanding of SRA Principles and Codes of Conduct.
  • Proficient knowledge of AML procedures, ABC, GDPR legislation, Sanctions and other relevant laws.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills, demonstrating a strong service orientation and effective problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficiency in utilizing relevant research tools and interpreting data effectively.
  • Proven track record in legal review and skilled in negotiating commercial contracts.
  • Ability to discern appropriate moments for escalating issues to the COLP/COFA or Deputy GC or GC.
