We are recruiting on behalf of our client, who are a leading sheet metal and fabrication company based in the heart of the Black Country. They have urgent requirements for a Production Planner to join their team. Duties:

  • Planning and scheduling: Planning and organising the production of a company's products.
  • Co-ordination between sales, design/production to ensure customer deliveries are achieved.
  • Identifying issues: Detecting and resolving issues as they arise
  • Improving processes: Finding ways to improve productivity and reduce costs
  • Communicating: Working with other employees and suppliers to ensure the production process runs smoothly
  • Reporting: Creating status and performance reports and presenting them to managers
  • Complying with regulations: Ensuring compliance with health and safety standards and workplace legislation
  • Ensure that correct robust data is recorded onto the MRP system
  • Managing material and equipment availability, scheduling production and monitoring the production process for problems
Key responsibilties: Direct impact on cost of production circa - £3-4 million
  • Production planners should have strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills. They should also be able to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • A minimum of 2 years supervisory responsibility in a metal working / fabrication shop environment. Must be able to read technical drawings.
  • I.T. literacy is essential, with experience of Microsoft Word / Excel, must be conversant with production scheduling / MRP software.
  • To check the production programme daily and raise queries with the appropriate staff.
  • To plan the production capacity, communicate with both technical office and production to pull information from one department to the other.

  • Plan and organise production workflow for one or multiple products.
  • Review and prioritise operations to ensure maximum performance and minimum delay.
  • Estimate project needs of manpower٫ equipment and raw materials. Set goals٫ tasks and priorities for workers and other staff.
  • Forecasting, Scheduling, Making Decisions, Planning and Material Control.
  • Decides on the quanity of raw materials needed to meet the production programmed.
  • Establish a strategy for ordering materials.
  • Implement regular personnel training.
  • Improving production efficiencies via automation.
  • Keep your company data safe and under your control.
  • Planning, - Planning determines what will be produced, by whom, and how
  • Scheduling, - Scheduling emphasizes “when” the operation will be completed.
  • A high level of Human relations skills is required in order to effectively communicate with supervise skilled, semi-skilled and un-skilled colleagues. Common courtesy is required when communicating with suppliers and colleagues alike.
  • Responsible for daily upkeep of databases, expediting workloads from the technical office, for on time delivery / issuing.
  • Responsibility for managing the NCR’s planning and correct data recording against the correct sales order number.
