Speech and language Therapist

Taunton Somerset, United Kingdom Somerset NHS Foundation Trust Full time

Are you looking for an exciting new challenge to develop your clinical and leaderships skills?

We have a rare opportunity to join a dynamic, friendly team of speech and language therapists in Somerset.

This is a mixed post covering 2-3 days a week based in the Somerset Neuro Rehabilitation Centre (SNRC) working with a complex caseload of patients recovering from a traumatic head injury (or similar neurological event). The rest of the week will be working in the community supporting patients recovering from stroke and/or brain injury.

The post is full time covering Monday to Friday, however a flexible working pattern and/or part time hours can be considered.

Our team has a well established supervision and support network in place. We have access to a wide variety of CPD opportunities and we encouragement development of leadership skills alongside clinical skills from the start of your career journey.

We value the importance of staff well-being and have appointed a well-being lead in the service to ensure all staff have access to well-being support alongside their one to one sessions and clinical supervision.

The successful candidate will have had some experience of working with patients following a stroke and/or head injury. We are willing to support a Band 5 therapist with relevant experience who is keen to progress to a Band 6 role.

Main duties of the job

  • To work 2-3 days a week at the SNRC neuro rehabilitation unit delivering patient centered and evidence based care for patients with communication and swallowing disorders.
  • To work 2-3 days a week in the community, working with patients with acquired neurological conditions
  • The role includes occasional cover at Musgrove Hospital, particular for acquired neuro and/or deteriorating neuro caseloads
  • To assess, diagnose and treat patients with communication and swallowing disorders following an acquired neurological event (stroke or head injury).
  • To actively contribute to service developments
  • Regular triage and prioritization of caseloads
  • To be included on the Bank Holiday Rota.
  • To cover other areas of clinical work in times of annual leave and sickness within the postholder's level of competence.
  • To work towards competence in videofluoroscopy
