The Carers Centre was formed 29 years ago and is the city's leading provider of services for adult unpaid carers. It is part of a vibrant voluntary sector, and a member of the national Carers Trust network.
A carer is anybody who, unpaid, looks after somebody who could not manage without this support due to illness, frailty, disability, a mental health problem or an addiction. Sheffield Carers Centre services are available to any adult carer in Sheffield including parent carers, or for a carer who cares for a person resident in Sheffield. Around 3,000 carers use our services every year.
At the end of 2021 the Carers Centre was successful in its bid to deliver the contract for the city's Carers Service with Sheffield City Council for the next 5 years. This commenced in January 2022 and provides an excellent level of financial stability for the Carers Centre.

Full-time role (35 hpw). Office opening hours; Monday to Friday 9am to 5pm. Annual leave: 24 days plus 3 days between Christmas and New Year (as the office is closed) plus 8 days bank holidays, plus an additional 5 days' leave following 5 years continuous service. All leave is pro rata for part-time staff.
Flexi working policy: New employees are fully office based until successful completion of probation after which hybrid working applies for staff with a suitable home set up. All staff are expected to work a minimum of 2 days per week in the office.
Office space: Modern, light, and airy City Centre office, handy for shops and public transport. Spacious staff room and kitchen. Secure parking for bikes and some limited onsite parking for cars.

To work within our core mission to deliver a high-quality service within the framework of related legislation, supervising Carer Advisors and managing their own smaller, more complex caseload.

To take part in appropriate formal and or informal training, or professional development, as identified by Sheffield Carers Centre, to ensure that current and lawful practice is implemented within the team.

Manage a small caseload of carers, across a range of complex caring situations, within agreed protocols in line with UK legislation and current policies and procedures.
Help carers access additional support via applications to external trusts and funding streams.
Liaise with external organisations as necessary to deliver innovative and creative packages of short-term and longer-term support.
Maintain accurate, up to date and timely records for carers, in keeping with the Carers Centre standards, using the case management system.
Ability to embed policy and practice into the team culture and buy in to organisational culture.
* Knowledge of, and commitment to equality and diversity best practice.
* Experience of using standard Microsoft Office applications and a case management system.
Knowledge of the Care Act, CQC Single Assessment Framework and their implications for carers
* Experience of working in health, social care or adult services, which could be in the statutory, voluntary or private sectors.
* Knowledge of other key social care legislation such as the Mental Capacity Act and Mental Health Act
* Knowledge of Community language(s)
