We are working with a leading semiconductor company known for its innovative microprocessor architectures. They are looking to expand their Solution Engineering FPGA design team, working at the forefront of embedded design in either Cambridge or Manchester.

As an FPGA/Embedded Systems Engineer, you will gain a deep technical understanding of incoming IP RTL designs, modifying them to create FPGA prototypes. Collaborating with a project team, you'll ensure successful prototype delivery while focusing on engineering efficiency and quality. Responsibilities include RTL creation and modification, implementing design constraints, and maintaining clear technical documentation.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Modify complex RTL for dedicated FPGA platforms.
  • Collaborate within project teams to meet structured plans.
  • Mentor junior engineers.
  • Liaise with development teams to understand requirements and guide design decisions.
  • Translate technical requirements into work packages for project planning.
  • Own tasks, track progress, manage risks, and report status.
  • Develop FPGA implementations for internal and third-party platforms.
  • Commission FPGA prototyping hardware, including specifying peripheral hardware.
  • Utilize scripting skills (Python, Tcl, etc.).
  • Familiarity with Arm IP and the AMBA standard is a plus.

Key Skills:

  • Solid FPGA design experience and automation skills.
  • In-depth knowledge of the FPGA design flow (RTL design, simulation, synthesis, etc.).
  • Strong RTL skills in Verilog/System Verilog or VHDL.
  • Expertise in debugging complex designs in simulation and hardware.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to produce clear documentation.

Desirable Skills:

  • Understanding of ASIC/SoC prototyping in FPGA.
  • Creative problem-solving approach.
  • Experience with Xilinx UltraScale+ devices and tools.
  • Knowledge of DDR memory subsystem implementation.
  • Familiarity with programming languages like assembly (Arm assembler), C, and C++.
  • Experience with UNIX environments and shell programming.
