United Kingdom Association of Mortgage Intermediaries Full time €40,000 - €48,000

AMI SENIOR POLICY ADVISER

The Association of Mortgage Intermediaries is the UK trade body representing mortgage brokers. We are looking for an individual to work alongside our Senior Policy Advisers and provide support to the Chief Executive. This is an exciting opportunity to join a small team and involves reading technical documentation, writing summaries and briefings, with a good understanding of the UK financial services industry, as well as travelling to London to attend meetings with government, regulators, banks and other trade bodies.

We are looking for someone who has the ability to absorb and articulate new information succinctly. You might either already be working in financial services or have professional experience with the skills we are looking for. We are focussed on the difference we make rather than the work put in. We firmly believe in flexible working, innovative thought and ensuring that the consumer is at the heart of our thinking. The main focus of the role will be on the UK mortgage and protection market.

The role will be home based with the team coming together in London or Milton Keynes usually two days per month on average. Travel expenses will be agreed prior to meetings.

Key Accountabilities

  • Monitoring government and regulator websites and newsfeeds to identify matters of interest.

  • Carrying out timely evaluation and analysis of technical consultative documents including those from regulators and developing the AMI response in consultation with the AMI Chief Executive.

  • Advising and drafting proposals as part of developing AMI’s policy toward regulation and technical issues affecting members.

  • Reviewing and producing summaries on government and parliamentary publications identifying implications for AMI members, Executive and Board Members.

  • Dealing with member queries, both telephone and correspondence, relating to regulatory, legal or technical issues and maintaining a high level of member support.

  • Producing member newsflashes, newsletters and guidance notes on industry issues covering FCA regulation as well as financial crime and anti-money laundering requirements.

  • Engaging and leading on core issues such as Consumer Duty including Vulnerability; Protection; Fees and Levies; and the AR Regime.

  • Maintaining regular contact and building constructive relationships with regulators, professional bodies and professionals working in the mortgage field.

  • Undertaking research tasks and project work as required by the AMI Chief Executive.

  • Attending trade shows, conferences, AMI events etc from time to time. These are held nationwide so an element of travel (including over-night stays) is expected.

  • Drafting press releases and liaising with journalists on specific areas of expertise.

  • Undertaking other duties as determined by the AMI Chief Executive in-line with the overall job purpose and commensurate with the skills of the post holder.

  • Undertaking training and professional development as required.

Person specification

We are looking for an individual with the following skills:

Essential

  • Well-developed drafting skills and the ability to summarise and communicate complex technical information.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Technical and practical knowledge of the mortgage and insurance sector.
  • Proficient IT skills.
  • Good interpersonal skills and the ability to develop constructive relationships with colleagues, AMI members and professional contacts.
  • Good numeracy and analytical skills including the ability to analyse statistical and financial information.

Desirable

  • A relevant Bachelor’s degree or professional qualification or related experience. However, an enquiring mind and desire to challenge is as important.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the regulatory and compliance framework within the wider financial services industry.
  • An understanding of policy and policy development and the practical application of policies in a commercial environment.

Employment information

Salary: £40,000 to £48,000 dependent on experience

Contract: Permanent

Hours of work: 35 hours per week

Benefits: 25 days’ holiday plus Bank Holidays, life cover of 4 x salary, 10% non-contributory pension scheme after three months.

Location: The role will be home based with appropriate technology provided. Regular meetings in Milton Keynes or London will be required, approximately two days per month.
