As part of the Engineering Producibility Team, a Mechanical Engineer is expected to influence new designs using New Product Introduction tools with a primary focus on manufacturability of product designs as well as continually improving upon existing product designs to strive for improved Safety, Quality, Cost & Delivery.

Hybrid working is a way in which our people can balance their time between the office, home or another remote location. It’s a locally managed and flexed informal discretionary arrangement. As a minimum we’re all expected to attend the workplace for collaboration and other specific reasons, on average three days per week.

What you will be doing:

With this exciting opportunity you will get a chance to:

  1. Be one of our design point of contact for pumps, valves, heat exchangers and pressure vessels within the manufacturing environment and act as the custodian of the product safety justifications.
  2. Assess and justify non-conformance and ensure design intent is maintained through manufacture (including co-ordination of specialist areas inputs)
  3. Liaise with other departments such as Design, Manufacturing, Quality, and Purchasing to ensure delivery of parts to set timescales and targeted costs
  4. Support production to ensure product flow in the factory and the supply chain
  5. Drive continuous improvements to eliminate the need for concessions and rework
  6. Support/lead new product introduction work packages for future programmes.

To be successful in this role you will need to:

  • Degree qualified or another national equivalent or have the requisite technical experience. Recognised national or international engineering accreditation (e.g. UK IEng or CEng) is desirable.
  • Possess a general understanding of mechanical design topics (such as application of standards, materials and analysis methods) and safety principles. A deeper understanding of valve, pump, heat exchanger or pressure vessel designs is desirable.
  • Experience in the nuclear industry or another highly regulated industry is advantageous, but training can be provided.
  • Possess a general understanding of manufacturing processes relevant to the business. A general awareness of Manufacturing Systems (i.e. NX, Teamcenter, CAPP, SAP) relevant to the business is desirable.
  • Have a good understanding of engineering processes relevant to their role i.e. DfM, and have the ability to manage ambiguity, priorities and change.
  • Have good communication, planning and coordination skills to manage relationships and influence internally and externally to the department.

To work for Rolls-Royce Submarines you need to hold a Security Check (SC) clearance without any caveats to that clearance. Rolls-Royce will support the application for Security Clearance if you don’t currently already have this in place. Any dual nationals will require additional scrutiny and background checks prior to commencing work with RRSL.
