Handyman / Caretaker

We are an independent property management business based in Chelmsford and currently looking for a new Handyman or Handywoman to join our friendly team. Our current handyman is retiring shortly and this is a key role in our team so we are looking for someone that is experienced with maintaining properties and is able to "get their hands dirty". The majority of the properties we own and manage are also based in Chelmsford so travel is minimum although occasionally travel is required to other towns in Essex. Our office is based close to New London Road where the work van is kept overnight. We specialise in HMO's (Houses of Multiple Occupancy) and therefore management and maintenance of properties is essential. We have a proactive programme of maintenance as well as reactive responses to problems/issues that are reported by our tenants. Each day can vary with many different tasks needing to be tackled from putting up shelves to painting and from fixing a leaking toilet to building flat pack furniture. The successful applicant will work closely with our Lettings Manager to ensure that tasks are completed in a timely manner and to ensure good communication between all parties including the tenants. We have external trades that we use for Gas Safety Checks and Electrial tests but also regularly work with local cleaning companies, gardeners, window & oven cleaners and this role sits firmly within that group of people. The role is part time however regular attendance on Monday - Friday is required. The actual hours worked can be flexible but dedication to the role and focus solely on this job is important. This would not suit a self employed person that has other customers/clients as well. The typical expectation would be for around 20 hours per week. A full, clean drivers license is required. Start date is flexible and to be agreed however looking currently around July. Salary to be agreed subject to experience and hours worked.
