Real Chemistry is looking for an Associate Director, Medical Strategy join our growing team

As Associate Director, Medical Strategy, you will have a broad remit across aligned accounts and where needed across the whole of Real Chemistry’s medical communications business.

You will look beyond the brand and complex scientific data to understand what it means in the context of different stakeholders, perspectives, beliefs and behaviours. Furthermore, you can interpret those insights and support change through critical thinking and client discussions.

You will have a deep understanding of the clinical scientific treatment landscape and how to interpret and translate the evidence into understandable, impactful and compelling scientific stories / narratives that are credible, resonate with the target audience, address the interests and open questions of the client and HCP external stakeholders, and influence behaviour.

As a role model to others, you will drive curiosity and ‘big picture thinking’, exploring opportunities through collaboration, diversity, and seeking inspiration from sources both inside and outside our industry.

You, or through direction of others, will identify and plan the activation of both rational and emotional factors to create tangible and credible evidence-based narratives with a clear red thread running through all initiatives, aligned with the strategy.

What you’ll do:

  • Proactively drive innovation by bringing perspectives that inspire creative thinking and actionable insights
  • Support clients in strategic planning process to align with an evolving Medical Affairs / Commercial landscape disrupted by technology
  • Undertake or direct research (e.g. through online resources stakeholder interviews, workshops and exercises) into medicines, therapeutic landscape, and competitive environment, providing input on how a brand’s scientific evidence-base can shape a brand’s go-to market strategy, positioning, and medical communication strategy
  • Understanding the scope, client interests/challenges and desired output to set the direction and how a project is delivered scientifically to elevate the narrative above the competition
  • Knit the science to tangible narratives and deliverables tailored to different audiences
  • Work in partnership with Medical Writers and the Accounts team and be the therapy area and competitive landscape expert
  • Healthcare thought leadership development – helping clients and external experts to achieve profiles that maximise the impact of their work
  • Cultivate strong relationships with internal partners, clients and external experts
  • Identify opportunities for growth through close client partnerships, understanding their interests and those of their cross-functional stakeholders
  • Support new business through research, in partnership with Analytics, planning and crafting pitch narratives and supporting slides that achieve winning proposals
  • Drive consensus across internal and external teams by providing guidance, a distinct and well-defined point-of-view and clear leadership
  • Support operating companies within the Real Chemistry network and department leads including Account, Creative and Analytics to develop innovative and results-driven brand plans
  • Work with Head of Medical Strategy (London) and other business leaders to build and develop the Medical Strategy team
  • Provide guidance to colleagues from Medical Writing and Client Services on their critical thinking and insights/strategy development. Serve as mentor in support of their career development
  • Through generation of scientific insights, direct the work of other team members (e.g. in Medical Strategy / Medical Writing / Client Services roles) to help develop and guide strategic direction and scientific content/messaging on brands
  • Proactively cascade product and disease area information to relevant clients and team members
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure harmonisation of scientific substance and customer insight, including review and provision of feedback on creative content, ensuring scientific accuracy and regulatory compliance

This position is a perfect fit for you if:

  • Our Company values – Best Together, Impact-Obsessed, Excellence Expected, Evolve Always and Accountability with an “I” – really speak to you.
  • You are adaptable, resilient, and OK with adjusting your scope, responsibilities, and focus as we grow. When things change, so do we. We’re always evolving.
  • You are proactive, driven, and resourceful with strong prioritization skills and a desire to dive into the data.
  • You are highly organized self-starter, able to work independently and under tight deadlines.

What you should have:

  • Proven history of working on strategic projects in a top-tier consulting firm or Medical Education/Communications agency
  • An advanced degree (e.g. PharmD, PhD, MSc, RN, MD) in a scientific/medical discipline
  • Proactively listen to what is said (and also to what it not said) to identify and understand opportunities and challenges
  • Strong emotional intelligence (EI / EQ) -- understanding your clients’ and colleagues’ interests / drivers and how to adapt your approach accordingly (i.e. situational leadership)
  • Proficient communicator (verbal and written) – embracing principles of storytelling and engaging presentations
  • Distilling complex concepts into logical and clear narratives with actionable insights that deliver impact / ‘so what’ factor
  • Strong worth ethic and proactivity
  • Competent in searching for scientific papers and conducting desk research using, for example, online scientific publishing tools (e.g. PubMed)
  • Proficient in Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Delivery of small to medium projects independently
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Understanding of the complete health ecosystem that impacts a brand, such as market access, competition, corporate reputation and sales and/or medical field force activities
  • 7+ years of healthcare experience through launching biopharmaceutical brands

Working with HART: Since the pandemic, we have adapted to how our people told us they want to work. We have offices in cities with many employees and clients – New York, Chicago, San Francisco, Manchester, UK and London, UK – that serve as hubs where and when they need us, and we encourage employees who live less than a 45-minute commute of a Real Chemistry office to go in at least two days per week. Outside of these offices, we have regions, where people work remotely but come together quarterly for collaboration, culture and learning opportunities. We call this our Hybrid and Regional Teams approach. Real Chemistry believes we are best together – and our workplace strategy fosters connection and collaboration in person – but also supports flexibility for our people.

Real Chemistry offers a comprehensive benefit program and perks, including a primary office location near in Moorgate, 25 days holiday, private medical insurance, dental insurance, pension contributions and a five-week sabbatical program. Other perks include health and wellness reimbursements, happy hours, and free healthy snacks to keep you running all day long. Learn more about our great benefits and perks at: .
