Hands-on Java Technical Architect – Global Reinsurer

Location: London (Hybrid)

Contract Type: Full-time

Hands-on Java Technical Architect sought to join the Commercial and Reinsurance arm of a household0name Insurer.

You will join a friendly team of Technical Architects, each with different software specialisms (both bespoke and SaaS) to design and deliver technical specifications for API-heavy Java-based software, while also taking a lead in best practice and setting standards for the wider Java delivery organisation. This is a hands-on role therefore you may also spend >20% of your time coding or coding-related tasks such as code review, therefore competency in Java is essential, especially in terms of enterprise best practice and standards. Experience in Insurance or B2B Financial Services would be ideal.

The current application suite is Java 11, Spring, Hibernate, JMS, Struts and Tomcat with MSSQL RDBMS, however you also take a lead role in moving to an ultra-modern OpenShift Kubernetes, Docker, Github and Azure Cloud stack. Prior Hibernate experience would be great, although otherwise applicants should be prepared to research prior to first interview stage Cloud, Container, and Orchestration exposure is not at all required, as you’ll be working as part of the team who will be working together to take their steps into Cloud.
