Job Description

Development Manager - Events – Full-time - Permanent  

 

We are looking for a confident, dynamic individual to join the Events Team at Make It York. 

 

It is Make It York’s privilege to be the city’s destination management organisation, enhancing and promoting York as a world-class destination. Our year-round marketing campaigns helped bring 8.9 million visitors to York in 2022, generating a total economic impact of £1.7bn and supporting over 17,000 FTE jobs. We keep the city centre relevant and enticing for residents and visitors, we provide a vibrant market all year round, opening seven days a week. Further to this we assist with the delivery of city centre events, speciality markets and activities. Under the brand Visit York, Make It York’s aim is to promote the city and its surrounds as a must-see world-class destination to the leisure visitor and ensure investment to develop the quality of tourism in York.  

 

Make It York are looking for an enthusiastic, passionate, and hard-working member of staff to join their Events Team on a full-time basis.  You will have significant, previous experience of working at a strategic level, developing and managing large scale events and leading a team to deliver a diverse and outstanding programme of events and speciality markets, that generate income for Make it York (MIY) in line with objectives set out in the business plan. 

Main Duties will include:  

 

  • Deliver an outstanding programme of high-quality events, festivals, and speciality markets, that are safe, accessible, and inclusive for all. 
  • Lead on the development a successful Events Strategy and programme, ensuring that it grows and increasingly links to the strategic priorities outlined in MIY’s business plan. 
  • Lead on the project management of partnership events, coordinating the relevant team members across team projects, ensuring effective resources and time management.
  • Ensure that the Events and Speciality markets effectively contribute to the wider regeneration of York City Centre and the development of York as a first-class visitor destination.
  • Deliver sustainable commercial events, which supports economic growth and generates surplus income for investment. 
  • Experience in working effectively, with multi-agency partnerships, such as Safety Advisory Group and other stakeholders. 
  • Effective staff management, motivating, and leading a high performing team. 

 

This is a full-time role working Monday to Friday every week with the occasional requirement for evening and/or weekend working. 

 

Make It York offers a competitive salary up to £45,000, 28 days holiday plus bank holidays, excellent training opportunities, a salary sacrifice pension scheme and a private health care scheme.
