An opportunity for a Mechanical Tooling Design Engineer to join our mechanical engineering team based at Wickford.Job Title: Mechanical Tooling Design EngineerJob Summary: As a Mechanical Tooling Design Engineer, you will be responsible for the design and development of tools, fixtures, and equipment used in the manufacturing process. You will work closely with Wickford in-house engineers and the wider Leidos cross-functional teams to ensure that the tools and equipment are designed to meet quality, efficiency, and safety standards.Tooling Design: Collaborate and innovate to create detailed tooling designs, including fixtures, jigs, clamps, and other specialized equipment required for manufacturing processes.CAD Modelling: Utilize computer-aided design (CAD) software to create 2D and 3D models of tooling and mechanical components. Analysis and Testing: Perform structural and functional analysis to assess the integrity and performance of the tooling designs. Cost Estimation: Participate in cost estimation for tooling projects, helping to keep projects within budget constraints.Documentation: Maintain detailed records of design specifications, changes, and project progress. Create comprehensive technical documentation, including drawings, schematics, and design reports.Collaboration: Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including manufacturing, quality assurance, and production teams, to understand their requirements and provide technical support.Contribute to the continuous improvement of mechanical designs, seeking opportunities to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and improve product quality.Safety and Compliance: Ensure that tooling designs meet safety standards and regulatory requirements. Identify and address design issues and troubleshoot problems that may arise during the manufacturing process.Qualifications:HND or higher or relative proven experience in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.Strong proficiency in CAD software, SolidWorks, Catia or Inventor.Ability to work under the guidance of senior engineers.Understanding of safety and quality standards in manufacturing.Willingness to travel to Leidos and customers sites to support our global footprint.Experience with finite element analysis (FEA) and simulation tools.SolidWorks proficientTeamCenter Visualisation suit proficient.Internship or coursework related to tooling design in a manufacturing environment.Familiarity with project management principles.Career Development: A Mechanical Tooling Design Engineer can advance in their career by gaining experience, taking on more complex projects, and eventually moving into roles with greater responsibilities, such as Senior Mechanical Tooling Design Engineer.
