About the role

Our Risk team sits at the very core of Ethos working across functions and products to monitor front-line performance and ensure that the business is on a safe footing.

We are looking for a Credit & Operational Risk Officer to support the development of our Bank through its Authorisation with Restrictions (AWR) phase into becoming a fully licensed bank.Initially, the role will work closely with other risk/compliance professionals to help support the establishment of policies, procedures, and systems to manage credit and operational risk. The person in this role will be a key player in the Risk team, operating as the backbone of credit risk management.

The Board of Ethos Bank has ultimate responsibility for Risk Management, and on a day-to-day basis risk is managed through our three lines of defence model.Ultimately this ensures all staff are accountable for Risk Management and builds a strong risk culture that is supported by a robust governance structure.

What You’ll be Doing

  • Helping to develop the credit and operational risk frameworks across the bank.
  • Supporting the design, implementation and maintenance of adequate credit and operational risk policies and procedures.
  • Working with others to develop our approach to credit lending, and ensuring we lend responsibly and comply to regulatory requirements.
  • Help design credit and operational risk dashboards that capture performance and key trends.
  • Supporting and driving positive customer outcomes (Consumer Duty), identifying opportunities for automation and optimisation.
  • Working closely with product squads to ensure that credit and operational risks are being identified and managed.
  • Helping to draft relevant management information to allow senior management and the Board to monitor how well credit and operational risks are being managed.
  • Supporting and influencing positive customer outcomes (Consumer Duty), helping to minimise the risk of consumer harm.
  • Supporting other colleagues in the 2nd line risk team as needed.
  • Supporting in the identification of potential suppliers of risk management systems and services e.g. ERM / GRC.
  • Contribute to delivering the Mobilisation Plan activities as they relate to Credit and Operational Risk.

What You’ll Need

  • Experience in credit risk management within a banking or financial services setting.
  • An understanding of customer onboarding and Open Banking.
  • Good awareness of data protection and data privacy requirements.
  • To be organised and have a methodological approach, with experience of working within a matrix organisation.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills, navigating autonomously and prioritisation.
  • An analytical mind with an eye for detail.
  • Adaptable and willing to support on other 2nd line of defence risk initiatives when needed.
  • Ability to work with other departments of our company especially with the operational teams.
  • Experience in working as part of a team to achieve team objectives and goals.
  • Comfortable building relationships with a variety of stakeholders.
  • Experience of working in credit and operational risk roles in financial services.

Nice to have

  • An understanding of what it takes to be a Shariah compliant bank in the UK.
  • Experience of risk management within a 1LOD, 2LOD or 3LOD role.
  • An awareness of Lean and Agile working methods.
