Principal Consultant - Sustainable Energy and Low Carbon Technology (Mid-Senior Level)

ERM is seeking a Principal Consultant to join our dynamic Sustainable Energy Solutions (SES) team of the ERM group, specializing in energy transition and low carbon technologies.

ERM is the largest sustainable development consulting company in the world. Its diverse teams of experts support their clients by drawing on technical expertise in environmental, health, safety, risks and social issues.

The SES team specializes in energy and low-carbon technology consulting and is involved with companies, investors and government organisations to implement low-emission technological solutions in order to help them meet the challenges of the energy transition.

The SES team brings deep expertise in the development, commercialization and implementation of emerging technologies such as decarbonized hydrogen and fuel cells, low-emission transportation, industrial decarbonization, sustainable buildings, electrification in the broad sense, carbon capture, storage and use.

The dynamism of our teams, our experience and our technical expertise allow us to offer innovative solutions, in-depth analyses, as well as strategic recommendations to our clients.

Role

Principal Consultants lead project teams on the delivery of innovative, high impact work in the low carbon technologies sector, producing detailed analysis and strategic recommendations for our clients. Responsibilities will include:

  • Managing multiple projects and/or programmes of work, leading teams of consultants to carry out research and quantitative analyses on various technologies, markets, regulations and commercial strategies;
  • Providing thought leadership in a particular area (or areas) of expertise within the low carbon energy sector;
  • Contributing substantially to work winning and business development activities, including through collaboration with others in both the SES team and other teams across ERM.

Location

London, Cambridge, Bristol, Manchester, Cardiff, Edinburgh. We operate a hybrid working policy.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Significant experience in the energy sector and/or consultancy, with a strong interest in sustainability and low carbon energy;
  • Demonstration of outstanding achievement and impact in your career to date;
  • Sound project management skills, and track record of successful project delivery;
  • Experience managing a team of technical experts, ideally across multiple projects simultaneously;
  • Demonstrable experience of business development and work winning, including generating new opportunities and leading the development of client proposals;
  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent qualification in physical science, engineering, economics or another relevant discipline (Minimum 2.1);
  • Excellent numeracy skills and ability to quickly think through complex problems;
  • IT literate and competent in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint;
  • Programming skills appreciated but not essential.
