The post holder is responsible for the assessment of patient care needs and development, devising, implementing and evaluating programmes of care, both for a specific group of patients as the named care provider and in supporting the care of all patients. As a Sister / Charge Nurse you will provide daily clinical and managerial leadership to nursing and support staff in the delivery of evidence based practice. Actively support the Ward / Unit Manager in the effective running of the department including in their absence

Main duties of the job

1. Establish and maintain effective communication with patient/carers and families aboutcomplex matters providing a warm welcoming and enabling environment to supporttherapeutic relationships2. Develop specialist knowledge, in area of practise, underpinned by theory3. Assess, plan, implement and evaluate the effectiveness of nursing care and adjust theprogrammes of care where indicated along with maintaining the health, safety andsecurity of self and others in own work area4. Contribute to the development of services5. Contribute to quality improvement6. Support patients, carers and staffs equality, diversity and rights7. Lead others in the development of knowledge, ideas and work practice8. Plan, allocate, assess and provide feedback to team members9. Maintain and support the efficient use of physical and /or financial resources10.You will practice in accordance with the professional, ethical and legal framework fornursing11.Ability to work flexibly and unsocial hours to meet the demands of the service

Job responsibilities

Communications and Relationships1. To communicate collaboratively with the wider MDT (Multi-Disciplinary team) to explorecomplex issues and to make complex decisions2. To effectively communicate complex and highly sensitive information3. To agree the arrangements for communication with the patient/family/carer, and todocument these in accordance with Trust policy and the patients right to confidentiality4. To competently receive highly sensitive information concerning patients medicalcondition and provide information using persuasive, reassuring skills as required, whichmay include when patients/family/carer are hostile and antagonistic e.g. bereavement /special needs / learning disabilities / where English is not the first language5. To ensure that essential information on the patients condition and progress is recordedby self and team members appropriately according to NMC guidelines

This vacancy is open to those who have a current NMC PIN to practice as an Registered Nurse or Midwife in the UK, or those who are currently enrolled on a course which means they expect to receive their full NMC PIN within the next 3 months. Please note an NMC PRN PIN is not a full NMC PIN and would not fulfil the essential criteria for this role.
