Northampton Northamptonshire, United Kingdom University of Northampton Full time

The University of Northampton provision in Psychology is expanding, requiring new posts to support the portfolio. We are uniquely placed within our current undergraduate provision by having positive psychology modules embedded at each stage of the undergraduate journey. To support this delivery, we are seeking a suitably qualified individual with particular expertise in the area of Positive Psychology, although an ability to contribute across the Psychology undergraduate and postgraduate provision is an advantage.
This is a full time, permanent post, although candidates wishing to work part-time will also be considered. The post will require you to undertake teaching, assessment, and related activities in the area of Psychology, with essential teaching provision, dissertation supervision and module leadership duties on our BPS accredited Psychology undergraduate awards and professional postgraduate courses. The successful applicant will be expected to engage in research and other interdisciplinary scholarly activities to enhance the impact and profile of the Faculty's outputs.
We understand this may vary between different areas of the university as well as from one person to another. You will have an educational background in Psychology or a closely related discipline, with expertise in Biological Psychology. Previous experience of teaching in Further/Higher Education is a distinct advantage, as is evidence of high-quality doctoral supervision. Good IT skills, including competence in using visual learning environments and remote teaching platforms is essential.
You should be a highly motivated individual, able to contribute to teaching, supervision, and module leadership. Some experience of teaching in the Higher Education sector is desirable. You should have a relevant PhD qualification or be within 12 months of the completion of your thesis.
A good Honors Degree qualification or equivalent in Psychology with eligibility for GBC with the British Psychological Society
Doctorate in Psychology or a closely related discipline, completed or within 12 months of completion
Professional Recognition as HEA Fellow (D2) or teaching qualification recognised by HESA, or willingness to obtain within an agreed timescale
Master’s degree in psychology or a closely related discipline

Faculty of Health, Education and Society
The Psychology and Sociology Subject Area at the University of Northampton is a large, collegiate, and supportive department with a strong culture of student focused teaching and high impact research. We deliver an extensive portfolio of undergraduate and postgraduate awards and are in a period of growth. Our current portfolio consists of a suite of BPS accredited Undergraduate and Postgraduate conversion Psychology programmes, while our strengths at postgraduate level lie in the areas of Counselling, Children and Young People and Child and Adolescent Mental Health. We also deliver various programmes on Health Education England’s Increasing Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) initiative, as part of the Midlands IAPT Collaborative.
Come to the University of Northampton and you will see that we do things a bit differently.
We are one of the youngest universities in the UK but we are already leading the way in adding value to society, which we call social impact. We have won multiple awards for our work in this area, among others, but what matters the most to us is ensuring that our students and graduates have the opportunity to make their mark on the world too. That’s why we were the first university in the UK to be named as a Changemaker Campus in 2012.
We want to break the mould of what Higher Education can be. This has led us to build a whole new University from the ground up that is designed to reflect the way that students actually learn rather than the way they are expected to learn. The University of Northampton is committed to providing a vibrant, ethical and sustainable work, study and living environment that values equality, diversity and inclusion.
This commitment, along with our legal and moral obligations, provides an inclusive environment for staff, students and the public who may be affected by our activities.
Together @ UON confirms our commitment to equality and inclusion, underpinned by our belief in taking action. We are dedicated to creating an environment that celebrates equality and harnesses the power of diversity.
Together @ UON demonstrates our pledge to our staff, students and partners to nurture and develop an environment where equality and inclusion can thrive whilst we Transform Lives and Inspire Change.
