The postholder will fulfil the statutory role of Pharmaceutical Advisor. They will be responsible for delivery of the Medicines Optimization and strategic pharmaceutical development agendas and upholding statutory requirements related to the safe and effective running of pharmacy services across Mountain Healthcare nationally including Sexual Assault Referral Centers, Police Custody and Secure Estates. They are to be an inspirational and creative leader who creates relationships and builds partnerships across traditional boundaries that improve the population health outcomes for people using Mountain Healthcare services.

  • Strategically lead on the clinical and operational delivery of pharmacy services, including to develop and implement the strategy for the Company Pharmaceutical Services and manage all aspects of this to enable Mountain Healthcare to deliver safe, effective, high quality and efficient clinical services. 
  • To lead the strategic development and delivery of the Medicines Optimization Strategy and staff training.
  • To be the Quality Improvement sponsor for medicines.
  • Provide leadership and hold responsibility for standards of pharmaceutical practice, quality assurance, risk management and other issues of clinical governance related to medicines optimization companywide including policy development and implementation, standards of safe and secure handlings of medicines and advice on complaints.
  • To ensure regular review of pharmacy performance using appropriate indicators and benchmarking, striving for continuous good practice.
  • Provide expert advice on medicines management to the Company senior management, clinical staff, and other health care professionals.
  • To support the Accountable Officer (Controlled Drugs) role to ensure compliance with relevant controlled drugs legislation. To provide pharmaceutical expertise regarding the interpretation of national policy, setting of practice standards, standards within contracts and specifications, and provision of expert advice on the management of controlled drugs incidents.
  • To provide medicines safety and optimization reports when requested by the Executive Board.
  • Work with senior medical, nursing and management colleagues to implement the national, regional and local priorities
  • To ensure effective risk management at team level through incident reporting, assessing and controlling risk and ensuring residual risks are added to the risk register.
  • Hold accountability for ensuring that the safe use of drugs is in place within the Company.

The post holder will be working from home but on occasion be required to undertake some driving/travel to locations across the UK as agreed with the line manager.

This is a part time position, 16 hours per week, shifts and days to be agreed with line manager.

Essential

  • Registered with the General Pharmaceutical Society (GPhC) as a pharmacist.
  • Conform to the GPhC and Royal Pharmaceutical Society (RPS) standards of ethical conduct applicable to all pharmacists in the United Kingdom.
  • Vocational Pharmacy Degree (4 years or equivalent)
  • One year Pre-registration training 
  • 5 years post registration experience.
  • GPhC and/or Royal Pharmaceutical Society registered 
  • 3 years resident in the UK for vetting purposes 

Desirable

  • Postgraduate qualifications, education, leadership, research or related clinical areas 
  • Experience in sexual health, secure estates or Substance misuse
  • Independent Prescribing 
  • Experience in Research and/or Audit
