The postholder is required to plan, implement, evaluate & give all relevant forms of care to one or a defined number of babies who require `special & normal care` with little supervision. The postholder is required to give the same care to `Intensive care` under minimal supervision of a more Senior Nurse(depending on experience).
The post holder is expected to mentor/teach & supervise junior members of staff, students & parents as is appropriate.
The post holder is required to undertake expanding roles eg Champion, QI project, Charity support and support or lead an area relevant to Neonates.
The post holder will have the experience & confidence to work without supervision in the Neonatal Unit. You will be required to attend deliveries and assist in resuscitation & assist the medical team.
The post holder must be able to support junior staff & parents.
To support PE in training & education.
To live within your clinical responsibilities & remain accountable & recognize your own limitations within the NMC Code of Conduct.
To complete & interrupt Audits and QI on the Neonatal Unit. Reading sits on the River Thames and is served by great road and rail links to London, Oxford, and Southampton. TRAINING AND EDUCATION 1. To take a lead in an agreed area of neonatal care and facilitate this in the servicedevelopment.To promote an environment that is conducive to quality learning and assessment.Maintain own continuing professional development needs in education, research, clinicand leadership skills.Develop and maintain competence in the additional skills related to the needs of the children, particularly those with differing needs. To be professionally accountable and to recognise own limitations of work and practicewithin the NMC Code of Conduct.To be responsible for the assessment and planning, implementation and evaluation ofcare, in negotiation with the family adapting to the individual needs of the infant.To act as an advocate for the child and their family ensuring the provision of appropriate information and support services.To guide, advise, and direct other staff in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of patient/client care.To utilise information and data from a range of sources to identify patient problems and guide decision-making processes. Within field of expertise and organisational policy, request specific clinical tests to establish a diagnosis.To promote service user involvement in the planning, delivery and evaluation of care,respecting their wishes, beliefs and dignity.To promote an open and trusting relationship by communicating effectively with serviceusers, members of the multidisciplinary team and other agencies involved in the care ofthe patient/client.To contribute to the continuing development of the Neonatal Unit.Participate in the internal rotation of day and night shifts within the unit.
To ensure the implantation of the organisations objectives, policies and procedures andthe implications for their practice.To assist in the development and review of policies, guidelines, protocols andprocedures.To undertake the professional development review process with identified teammembers.Support staff with performance issues developing action plans to addressdevelopmental needs.To act as a professional role model for junior staff, promoting high standards of practiceand strong professional values.To assist with shift planning for the practice area including the efficient use of Bank & Agency Staff.
Promote the safety of the ward and the risk management process, by participating inclinical audit, clinical risk and quality issues and incident reporting.To attend and participate in Band 6 meetings11. To communicate clearly with all members of the multidisciplinary team, demonstratingsensitivity to cultural and language differences.To promote open and trusting relationships by communicating effectively with service users, members of the multidisciplinary team and other agencies involved in the care ofthe child/young person.To utilise the critical incident reporting system to document actual or potential risks impacting on the quality of patient care.
To actively promote evidence based practice in own and the practice of other membersof staff involved in the care of the patient/client.With training, access organisational electronic information systems relevant to the role.
