Fortescue WAE exists to accelerate the advantage and impact of our clients. We do it through innovative engineering and technology that solves complex problems and brings a step-change in weight, speed, and efficiency. Join us to help fulfil our mission to accelerate an efficient, electric, and sustainable future.

An opportunity has arisen to for an Engineer – Validation to join the Integration department in a rapidly expanding and exciting work environment. The role is to develop Verification and validation plans on programmes, likely automotive or heavy industry. Based on product requirements and prior experience the candidate will work with Requirements, System, and Integration Engineers to define the tests, to schedule these tests and advise on optimum test-asset quantities. Adapt to changing availability of parts and facilities and recover from unforeseen issues to minimise risk to the programme and complete the validation and verification activities. The individual will support the test engineers and test operations manager (who are responsible for carrying out or monitoring the tests) in the planning stages and to collate and review the output from these tests. The role will suit individuals with a passion for electrification or cutting-edge engineering and is seeking a strong team-environment, within a high-paced culture.

Job role:

· Creation and Management of Design Verification Plans (DVPs) to ensure efficient and timely completion of product test programmes. Consolidates the requirements/DFMEA/legislation-lead tests into a plan which has been optimised given the constrains on test assets, facilities and child-component maturity.

· Support trade-off negotiations and mediate where required between attributes and/or system groups to resolve DVP conflicts and ensure the optimal balancing of test requirements vs timing / cost / risks.

· Works with System Engineers, Integration Engineers and Test Operations group to identify and select the appropriate test to verify a requirement: including both physical and virtual verification activities.

· Supports the creation of supplemental design verification methods and/or recommends revisions consistent with technology evolution and changing customer needs.

· Collaborates with System Engineers, Integration Engineers and Test Operations to develop test and durability cycles to reflect customer usage.

· Review DV activities to confirm that they are appropriate, thorough, and realistic.

· Is aware of risks and can propose mitigation activities to maximise the likelihood of a smooth DV phase.

· Assemble costs on projects and provide forecasts for the gateways.

· Evaluate supplier and competitor products, and report on latest technologies.

· Carry out limited development testing when resources, workload and prioritisation require.

· Report out of DVP status (including gateway presentations). Ensure concerns are raised on relevant test failures and track progress through to closure.

· Coordination of benchmarking activities

You’ll have:

· Typically, more than 2 years of experience in the automotive, motorsport, off-highway or aerospace industries in 1 or more areas:

o Electrification, energy storage systems, ePowertrain, power electronics, body or chassis systems is desirable.

· Experience managing DVP programmes at various stages of a design maturity from early proof of concept models and mules, through prototypes and on to full production unit verification/validation is preferred.

· Can demonstrate scheduling and planning skills; including a balance risk-based approach to the provision of contingency.

· Must be able to work autonomously and take the initiative; The individual will not be isolated but will need to push forward by themselves wherever possible and know when to ask or support/assistance.

· Knowledge across 1 or more core systems of an electrified product e.g. thermal, energy storage, control or propulsion is desirable.

· Able to work collaboratively to resolve challenging situations.

· An engineering qualification (e.g. Degree) in mechanical, automotive, electrical or aerospace engineering.

· Knowledge of JIRA, Polarion or Teamcenter would be advantageous.

We’ll provide:

  • Training to add to your existing skills and accelerate your career
  • A supportive and empowering work environment
