Aims and objectives:
1.To build on and develop the work of our Sunday children’s ministry (Blaze, Shine, Sparklers, Twinkle) and other mid-week activities so that children can discover, and grow in, their relationship with Jesus.
2.To develop ways of engaging effectively with the 0-11 age group and their parents/carers in the local community, particularly through developing links with local primary schools and our Babies and Toddlers Ministry.
3.To work alongside families to foster a culture of discipleship at the heart of every home.
4.To develop ways of strengthening families and family life in our church and wider community.
5.To grow and develop teams of volunteers to deliver all aspects of the Children’s and Families ministry.
These will be carried out through:
1.Growth and Development of existing ministriesa.Helping create a warm and welcoming environment for children and families at all Emmanuel and Eastbury events throughout the week.
b.Extending the reach of our current children’s ministry to reach new families with the love of Jesus.
c.Developing discipleship of children within the life of the Emmanuel Parish so that children can begin, and grow in, their relationship with Jesus.
d.Develop our Sunday morning programme so that it becomes a highlight of every child’s week.
e.Envisioning, leading, strengthening and resourcing the large team of volunteer helpers and parents engaged in our Sunday and mid-week activities.
f.Be an advocate and champion for children and families as a member of the staff team and, with others, ensure that children and families have a sense of belonging to the wider church family.
a.Creating new and innovative opportunities for local children to hear about Jesus.
b.Developing our pre-school work, especially through the Baby and Toddlers Ministry.
c.Supporting and partnering with local state and independent primary schools through assemblies, lunch clubs, church-based school events and similar opportunities to engage with local children.
d.Facilitate and lead family life courses for parents from the church and local community.
3. Nurture and discipleshipa.Encourage and resource families to create a culture of discipleship at home.
b.Coming alongside families to encourage, help and support them both spiritually and practically throughout the week.
c.Developing resources to equip families to grow spiritually together.
4. Additional areas of responsibilitya.Ensuring relevant procedures and processes are adhered to and that all activities are compliant with national legislation including GDPR and Health and Safety.
b.Developing a close working relationship with the safeguarding team to ensure best practice across the children and families ministry.
c.Such other roles as may be deemed necessary by the line manager from time to time to ensure effective development of the church’s mission.
Person Specification:
- A committed evangelical with a personal and active relationship with Jesus Christ, rooted in a lifestyle that reflects this.
- A sympathy and alignment with the Church of England.
- A heart for both Word and Spirit ministry.
- A heart for children and a strong desire to share Jesus with them.
- Experience in children’s ministry in church and schools.
- Proven leadership, management, administration and communication skills, in particular when interacting with the core age group of 0 – 11 year olds and their families.
- Motivator and leader, with experience of working with volunteers and recruiting and leading a team.
- Track record of personal integrity and financial probity.
- A team player willing to play a full and supportive role in our staff team.
- Willingness to work flexibly including evenings and weekends.
·Qualification in Children’s Work, Theology, teaching or any related area.
·Experience of managing a budget and spending wisely.
·Clean driving licence and car usage.
Training:
A schedule of ongoing training will be agreed in the light of previous experience and gifting.
Contract:
For the right applicant we would consider a part-time arrangement. The following is based on a full-time contract:
·Salary: £22K to £27K depending on experience
·Full-time post subject to a probationary period of 6 months and satisfactory Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. For the right applicant we would consider a part time appointment.
·Hours: Normally 37.5 hours per week across 5-6 working days, including Sunday. Additional hours may occasionally be required by mutual agreement with the line manager
·Holiday allowance: 25 days a year plus bank holidays, with a maximum of 6 Sundays off
·Office space including use of a computer is provided
·Reasonable expenses incurred in carrying out the role will be reimbursed
Housing:
There is the possibility of affordable housing provided through a local Trust with a Christian foundation.
