A highly reputable secondary school in East Sussex is seeking a dynamic and experienced Head of Science to join their permanent staff from September 2024. This is a fantastic opportunity for an ambitious leader to drive the vision and success of the Science Department in a supportive and forward-thinking educational environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage the Science Department, ensuring the delivery of high-quality science education across all key stages.
  • Develop and implement effective teaching strategies to enhance student engagement and academic achievement.
  • Oversee curriculum planning, assessment, and evaluation, ensuring alignment with national standards and examination requirements.
  • Mentor and support science teachers, fostering a culture of professional growth and collaboration.
  • Monitor and analyse student performance data to inform teaching practices and departmental improvements.
  • Coordinate the use and maintenance of science laboratories and resources, ensuring a safe and effective learning environment.
  • Collaborate with senior leadership to contribute to whole-school initiatives and policies.

Requirements:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and a degree in a science-related subject.
  • Substantial experience in teaching science at the secondary school level.
  • Proven leadership experience within an educational setting, preferably in a science department.
  • Strong knowledge of the UK national curriculum and examination specifications.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to inspire and motivate both students and staff.
  • Commitment to continuous professional development and educational excellence.
  • A proactive and innovative approach to teaching and learning.
