Sector: Construction or Builders Merchant

Role Overview: As a Branch Manager, you will support and oversee our largest branch, ensuring performance is sustained at its current level and optimized for continuous growth. You will be responsible for ensuring legal compliance and the correct implementation of company policies and procedures. Additionally, you will lead, motivate, and develop your team to achieve objectives.

As a Branch Manager, you should have extensive experience in a Builders' Merchant environment, either at the local or national level. Managing a large team with varying disciplines and career levels is essential. Experience in all sectors of the Builders Merchant trade, including Timber, Roofing, Plumbing, and General building, is required. Experience in a civils background is advantageous but not essential.

Duties will include, but are not limited to:

General

  • Working on special projects as required
  • Providing out-of-hours support for alarm and CCTV providers, including being the first on call for your branch
  • Being a key holder for the branch
  • Responding to and addressing customer complaints

People Management

  • Leading by example and communicating with staff in a supportive manner
  • Developing staff capabilities and addressing underperformance
  • Delegating tasks effectively
  • Managing staffing levels and resource allocation
  • Interviewing, recruiting, and inducting new employees
  • Handling disciplinary and grievance hearings

Branch Performance

  • Ensuring stock takes are completed and investigating any variances
  • Overseeing stock levels and delivery service
  • Maintaining customer service standards
  • Enhancing relationships with suppliers
  • Making trading sales and margin decisions
  • Collaborating with other branches for stock optimization

Change and Improvements

  • Proposing changes to the Operations Manager
  • Ensuring approved changes are communicated and implemented

Health & Safety/Compliance

  • Ensuring Health & Safety Regulations are followed
  • Working with local councils and agencies as needed
  • Encouraging staff responsibility for standards
  • Monitoring tachographs and drivers' hours
  • Reporting incidents involving plant or company vehicles
  • Providing reports of on-site injuries
  • Ensuring company procedures are followed
  • Completing monthly checklists
