As a Business Intelligence Engineer, you will be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining data pipelines, warehouses, and systems to enable efficient data processing, storage, and retrieval. Your expertise in data engineering tools and technologies will be crucial in ensuring that data is accessible, dependable, and ready for analysis by data scientists, analysts, and other stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities:

Data Pipeline Development:

  • Design, develop, and maintain data pipelines to ingest, transform, and move data from various sources (e.g., databases, APIs, logs) to data storage solutions.
  • Ensure data pipelines are scalable, efficient, and fault tolerant.

Data Warehousing:

  • Create and manage data warehouses or data lakes to store and organize structured and unstructured data.
  • Optimise data storage solutions for performance and cost-efficiency.

ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) Processes:

  • Build and maintain ETL processes to clean, enrich, and transform raw data into a usable format.
  • Automate data integration tasks to ensure data quality and consistency.

Data Modelling:

  • Collaborate with data scientists and analysts to design and implement data models that support analytical and reporting needs.
  • Optimise data models for query performance.

BI Support:

  • Collaborate with BI analysts to understand reporting requirements.
  • Develop and maintain reports, dashboards, and data visualizations using BI tools.

Performance Optimization:

  • Monitor and optimise data pipelines and database systems for performance and scalability.
  • Identify and resolve bottlenecks and performance issues.

Data Documentation and Metadata Management:

  • Maintain comprehensive documentation of data pipelines, data transformations, and data sources.
  • Manage metadata to facilitate data discovery and lineage tracking.

Data Quality Assurance:

  • Implement data quality checks and validation processes to identify and rectify data issues.
  • Establish data quality monitoring and reporting mechanisms.

Collaboration and Communication:

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including analysts, and business stakeholders, to understand data requirements and deliver solutions.
  • Communicate technical concepts and findings to non-technical stakeholders effectively.
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Hands-on experience as a BI Engineer, with a proven track record of designing and implementing data solutions.
  • Proficiency in data engineering technologies and tools, such as Apache Spark, Hadoop, SQL, and ETL frameworks.
  • Strong programming skills in languages like Python, Java, or Scala.
  • Experience with cloud-based data platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud Platform) preferably Azure.
  • Knowledge of data warehousing and data modelling concepts.
  • Familiarity with data integration, transformation, and orchestration tools.
  • Understanding of data security and compliance requirements.
  • Foundational knowledge of Power BI to facilitate the ongoing support and maintenance required for reports.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage complex projects.
  • Experience in the insurance or brokerage industry is desirable.
