The School of Education at Durham University is looking for a talented individual to join its team as an Assistant Professor (Education) in Primary Science and support the delivery of our Initial Teacher Training programmes.

We are committed to research-led and research informed teaching and diversity in approaches to accommodate needs and potential of student learners. Our current portfolio of teaching ranges from undergraduate programmes (a BA in Education Studies and a BA in Primary Education), through Postgraduate Taught Masters pathways (from MA Education to MA Research Methods) and PGCE Primary/Secondary to Postgraduate Research. Overall, we are ranked 5th in the Complete University Guide. We are also a top 100 THE World Ranked School of Education, ranked 77th in 2023 and were rated as Outstanding by Ofsted in its last two inspections.
Applicants must demonstrate teaching excellence in the field of Primary Science Education, with the ability to teach our students to an exceptional standard and to fully engage in the services, citizenship and values of the University. You will have UK Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) and experience of working in UK Primary schools. You will be expected to engage in scholarship related to pedagogy, and, as such, will be expected to participate in one of the School's the thematic areas for research, noting that any other independent research (beyond pedagogy) is not part of this post. The appointment will be on the University's 'Education Track' career path, which provides clearly defined opportunities for progression against defined criteria.
