A vacancy has arisen for a Head of Employment Tax, based in Cambridge to join our well-established in-house tax team.
Reporting to the Global Tax Director, the Head of Employment Tax will have responsibility for leading the business' approach to UK and international employment tax issues. contributing to business policies (within and beyond the tax team); and continuous development of processes and/or checks to ensure consistency in the way we approach employment tax issues.
The role will oversee an Employment Tax Manager and, working as a team, will liaise with payroll, people/reward and legal functions at a senior level to promote awareness of tax issues and changes.
Monitoring, identifying, and signing off employment status reviews, including issuing Status Determination Statements for PSC contractors.
Working to ensure Assessment Specialist engagement and tax status is monitored and reviewed, working to improve systems capability and wider operation.
Managing business queries and challenges on contractor status, point of escalation for status challenges/appeals factoring in business criticality.
Input and review of onboarding system design improvements and performance.
Play a leading cross-business role in developing strategy and policy, along with the design and implementation of new systems to improve business agility and overall compliance.
Maintaining awareness of evolving tax case law in this area.
Global Mobility
Lead tax discussions regarding business and personal mobility requests including the transition of role or individuals overseas for temporary or permanent moves.
Liaison with people, legal, tax, payroll, and finance to ensure smooth operation of mobility requests and management of risks.
Development of Mobility policy and processes in line with continued expansion of global footprint of business.
Continued monitoring of mobile employees to ensure ongoing compliance, including tax, social security, short-term overseas visitation.
Lead on other key areas of employment tax
Annual PAYE settlement agreement (PSA) reporting.
Short Term Business Visitor tax returns (ties with mobility).
You will be a leader and expert in employment tax (preferred) and/or global mobility tax issues. You will have demonstrated ability to brief and influence stakeholders at all levels on employment tax/mobility matters, clearly articulating complex issues and their impact on business approach.
You will have an understanding of operating practices that would be required by an international group, such that you can lead or support business-wide strategy and policy. You may also act as a link between other business areas to identify risks and empower solutions.
10-15 years of experience in employment taxes (preferred) or global mobility taxes.
~ Professional tax or accounting qualification (CTA or similar), or similar knowledge demonstrated by experience.
~ Knowledge of latest developments in employment status and/or international tax issues impacting international mobility.
~ Proven ability to manage multiple project or workstreams, and to work to demanding deadlines in a complex environment.
