Principal Mechanical Engineer | Cambridge (Hybrid) | £60k - £70k

We are currently seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer to join a building services engineering consultancy in Cambridge. This role offers a dynamic environment where you will lead various projects, engage with clients, and foster a collaborative atmosphere for professional growth. They offer consultancy services spanning building services, sustainability, BIM, architectural lighting design, vertical transportation, and smart buildings for a wide array of projects. Their project spectrum encompasses Commercial, High-end Residential, Pharmaceutical, Healthcare, Leisure, Hotels, Education, and Historic buildings. Their footprint is expanding not only in the UK but also internationally, extending to the Middle East and North America. Embracing the Passivhaus methodology and approach, they strive to deliver new buildings that are intelligent, eco-friendly, and highly efficient. Additionally, they focus on optimizing existing buildings to ensure they meet current needs and standards.

Key Responsibilities of Principal Mechanical Engineer:
  1. Lead diverse projects from inception to completion, ensuring adherence to budget and operational requirements.
  2. Develop detailed designs with precise calculations, meeting industry and statutory standards.
  3. Mentor junior engineers to foster their professional development.
  4. Make informed decisions regarding project progress and maintain direct communication with clients.
  5. Support project management under the guidance of a Project Director.
  6. Represent the company in technical meetings with stakeholders.
  7. Actively contribute to departmental development initiatives.
  8. Deliver projects within specified timeframes.
  9. Engage in Continuous Professional Development (CPD) activities.
  10. Manage workload efficiently with minimal supervision.
Qualifications and Skills:
  1. Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  2. Minimum of 10 years of experience in Mechanical Building Services design.
  3. Proficiency in UK-based project design and familiarity with British Building Standards.
  4. Expertise in Hevacomp and TAS software.
  5. Strong managerial skills.
  6. Comfortable in client-facing roles.
  7. Registered Chartered Engineer with the UK Engineering Council, or actively working towards registration.
  8. Knowledge of UK Standards and Specifications.
  9. Possession of a valid UK driving license.
