Be at the heart of shaping the future of Automation within the public service by joining our digital services team and playing a key role in our digital transformation.

As ‘Automation Centre of Excellence Manager’ you will play a pivotal role in shaping the way we deliver automation services to our users, making those services and associated digital products more user-centred and efficient.

You will collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams to conceive, design and deliver end-to-end digital automation services.

You are responsible for leveraging automation technologies to optimize business processes, improve productivity, and drive digital transformation within the council. You will lead on designing, developing, and operating automated solutions to streamline business processes and improve efficiency.

Managing a small team (which will eventually expand) and as a senior member of the team, you will collaborate with business stakeholders, subject matter experts, and IT teams to understand requirements, gather feedback, and provide technical guidance. You will also participate in project planning, coordinate development efforts, and contribute to the overall automation strategy of the council.

Main duties of the job

  • You will be Islington’s Automation Centre of Excellence Manager, with direct management of the automation team.
  • As Automation Centre of Excellence Manager, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining RPA solutions using Blue Prism and Power Automate.
  • You will utilize these tools to create end-to-end automation solutions in line with best practice.
  • You will work closely with business stakeholders to identify processes suitable for automation, analyse requirements, and to create and maintain the backlog of work for the Centre of Excellence.
  • You will ensure all governance gateways are adhered to.
  • You will represent the Centre of Excellence at working groups and other meetings, promoting best practice and advising on the potential and benefits of automation.
  • You will encourage and champion our new automation community of practice and provide support and expertise as needed.
  • You will monitor and manage the deployed automation solutions. This involves troubleshooting issues, handling exceptions, managing bot performance and scalability, and ensuring continuous improvement of the automated processes. You will also be responsible for maintaining documentation, conducting system upgrades, and staying updated with the latest trends and advancements in automation technologies.
  • You will also be responsible for the implementation and lifecycle management of commercial off-the-shelf automation products as required by services.
