General Purpose

The CMT will have skills in medication administration of nonparental medications which will qualify them to perform these procedures to assist LPN or RN in drug therapy.

Qualifications:

* Health - able to meet performance requirements of this job.

Education and Training:

* Completed and approved training program.

* Certified to practice in this state.

* Participates in continuing education so that he/she has knowledge of current trends and new developments in nursing and meets state requirements.

* Will participate in state required update training when applicable.

Job Knowledge and Capabilities:

* Ability to learn, absorb, and apply technical training, and the ability to prepare and administer treatment or medication and keep records in prescribed manner.

* Ability to perceive difference in patient behavior and recognize symptoms and the ability to communicate effectively in writing, by telephone, and in personal contacts.

* Ability to organize work procedures.

* Special interest in geriatric nursing.

PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS:

Responsible for handling and caring for patients in a manner conducive to their safety and comfort under the direction of licensed nurses and patients' physicians.

Physical Demands:

* Able to be on feet standing or walking 8-12 hours per day.

* Able to lift 60-70 lbs. on frequent basis.

* Able to bend, stoop, squat and twist numerous times daily.

* Able to see and hear adequately in order to respond to auditory and visual requests from patients.

* Able to speak clearly enough to adequately communicate with patients who may be hearing impaired.

* Able to carry out fine motor skills and manual dexterity.

* Must have good leadership and communication skills.

Specific Patient Care Duties and Responsibilities:

* Assume responsibility for safe administration of medications and treatments.

* Coordinate nursing activities with the activities of other departments. Admit new patients.

* Make frequent rounds to verify that appropriate nursing care (according to established policies and procedures) is provided; note any changes in a patient's condition; intervene to correct any problems observed.

* Assist physician during rounds.

* Maintain the self-respect, personal dignity and physical safety of each patient. Assist patients to attain highest level of self-care possible.

* Relieve other shifts if needed.

* Perform other duties as assigned.

Specific Personnel/Employee Relations Responsibilities:

* Resolve employee work related problems, complaints and grievances to extent possible. The first line supervisor is the first step in the formal complaint procedure described in the Personnel Manual.

Responsibilities:

* Prepare, administer and char medications by all routes with the exception of injections and parental route.

* Chart vital signs, intake and output, and weights to assist the charge nurse.

* Reorder medications in a timely manner.

* Put medications away when received from pharmacy. Monitor for drug discrepancy.

* Maintain a clean and orderly med cart and work area.

* perform other duties, including CNA assignment or as directed by Unit Manager, LPN/RN supervisor and or house supervisor.
