About The Role
Murphy are seeking applications for am Electrical, Control & Instrumentation Engineer to work a long term nationwide Gas contract. This is an exciting opportunity to join an established Contractor. The successful candidate reporting to the System Operations manager is responsible for delivery of the operational activities on the transmission and distribution networks nationwide. The candidate, will ensure that the scope of works is delivered in a safe manner, on time, to the required quality standards, meeting the acceptance criteria and achieving the expected financial outcomes.

What You Will Be Doing


Never Harm
• Develop knowledge in planning, managing and delivering works in a safe, controlled and environmentally sustainable manner.
• Ensure a strong culture for Never Harm is present on the project; actively promote engagement with the CDP programme.
• Ensure risk assessments are created, in place and reviewed regularly.
• Carry out all work in accordance with health and safety and any other legal requirements

Key Responsibilities and Duties 

  • Delivery of all E, C&I operational activities planned, corrective, reactive and emergent across the Gas Network, taking responsibility for their safe completion on time, within scope and within budget.
  • Identification and Delivery of budgetary efficiencies.
  • Delivery of designated capital projects as and when required.
  • Managing E, C&I operational activities in line with Sustainability, Health, Environmental Safety and Quality requirements.
  • Managing & delivering on strict KPIs set out by the client
  • Driving proactive safety culture throughout the contract.
  • Providing flexibility to work across regions as required addressing operational needs.
  • Provide reactive and proactive engineering expertise where required such as in the case of newly emerging technology or due to regulatory changes.
  • Working with a team of Engineers, Coordinators, Technologists, Support Staff and Technicians drawn from both client and Contractor resources.
  • Building strategic relationships across key areas including the client and our stakeholder community to ensure Field Operations priorities are reflected across all relevant policies, procedures, plans and schedules.
  • Liaising with Scheduling and Dispatch around planned, corrective, reactive operations activities to ensure field operations are providing a safe, effective and efficient service.
  • Champion the implementation of new technologies across E, C&I field operations to promote a culture of continuous improvement.
  • Cross-skilling of operational resources between the transmission and distribution networks.
  • Managing/developing the relationship with our Field staff to identify operational risks and issues that may give rise to incidents or outages on the networks or contribute to schedule or budget overruns.
  • Raise risks and issues as appropriate to the Senior E, C&I Field Operations Engineer.
  • Liaise with Consultants and Third Parties as required.
  • Drive the continued improvement of operational processes and procedures.
  • Performing other duties as assigned from time to time.
  • Assist in testing, troubleshooting, and commissioning of electrical systems. Resolving technical problems at all levels.
  • Carry out inspections in accordance with the Inspection and Test Plan.
  • Ensuring activities are carried out in safe manner in accordance with the Project Safety Plan.
  • Ensure equipment is calibrated, in date and suitable checked in accordance with company policies and the manufacturers’ defined requirements.
  • Manage the co-ordination and supervision of Sub-contractors in the performance of the Works.
  • Manage the Site Management team to update KPI’s, material reconciliation


What We Are Looking For

  • Proven technical competence is essential – Engineering degree or other relevant qualification desirable.
  • Natural Gas or related technical environment experience.
  • Knowledge of hazardous areas with ATEX certified equipment.
  • Knowledge of operating and maintaining SCADA / Distributed Control Systems (DCS)
  • Proven track record in the area of field operations/maintenance.
  • Project Management methodologies and a proven track record in their implementation.
  • Proven track record providing exemplary customer service.
  • Proven track record in change control management of processes and procedures.
  • Experience in working with diverse technical teams.
  • Previous experience with initiating and maintaining strategic relationships both internally and externally, using strong influencing skills to achieve business goals.
  • Provide coaching in the development of the technical skills and abilities in others.
  • Excellent analytical and problem solving skills, coupled with the ability to generate innovative technical solutions as required.
  • Clear communication style and will be able to influence others effectively.
  • Demonstrated a commitment to developing new skills in yourself and others.
  • Driver of high standards for individual, team and organisational accomplishment and delivering desired results.
  • Proven track record with dealing with complex issues, proactively and in a timely fashion, along with the ability to communicate complex information to others.
