London, United Kingdom octopusev.com Full time

Are you a high performing strategy consultant looking to move into a market-leading, rapidly growing, green business? Would you suit a highly varied role, working in a close-knit and high-impact team, directly supporting the continued growth of the Octopus Electric Vehicles business? Then read on…..

The Special Projects team works directly with our CEO on crucial strategic initiatives across Octopus EV to support our ambition to drive the uptake of EVs in the UK.

The Special Projects team is led by an ex-Strategy Consultant. The team is looking to meet experienced consultants who could bring greater capacity and capability to the team. We are keen to find individuals who can bring diversity of thinking and intellectual challenge, enabling the team to better support the business.

Due to the nature of the role, we aren’t entirely sure the projects you will work on, however we can guarantee that they will have an outsized impact on the business. Since the team was set up, they have:

- reviewed and revamped end-to-end activities related to a key EBITDA driver

- reviewed potential acquisition opportunities

- explored a potential international expansion

- liaised with industry players around potential future policy/regulatory initiatives which could support the mass market uptake of Electric Vehicles in the UK

- provided coaching and mentorship to colleagues across the business, sharing best practice from consulting

What you'll do...
  • Often working across multiple projects concurrently, you will be expected to be flexible and comfortable undertaking varied activities
  • Own and deliver workstreams and projects with support from Head of Special Projects and other leaders across the business
  • Work with Head of Special projects to identify and test hypotheses to solve challenges without perfect data
  • Process data efficiently in a structured manner to support hypothesis testing
  • Develop strategic solutions to challenging problems and undertake / support the delivery of proposed solutions
  • Ask “Why?” - challenge the status-quo in Octopus EV and help to identify potential routes to improvement
  • Support the creation and embedding of tools to support increased efficiency across the business
  • Plan activities and proactively identify upcoming challenges with project delivery, seek out and implement potential mitigations with senior support
  • Write slides and Word documents to communicate outcomes of ongoing analysis
  • Actively participate in variety of meetings with stakeholders from across the organisation and, occasionally, external parties
  • Become a key member of the Special Projects team, working with the business to deliver meaningful results to the organisation
  • Support review of potential acquisitions and development of market entry strategies
  • Engage with colleagues across the business on a wide variety of topic areas
What you'll need...
  • 3 to 5 years of consulting experience with a primary strategy focus
  • Experience across multiple varied project types, including implementing solutions
  • Demonstrable interest in clean energy/EVs/energy transition
  • Ability to multitask supported by strong organisational skills and the ability to prioritise tasks
  • Ability to manage with uncertainty / poorly structured asks
  • Ability to deploy strategic frameworks to provide structure to unstructured problems
  • Willingness to manage with limited data
  • Desire to help the team and wider business to grow
  • Strong quantitative abilities including ability to develop Excel models at pace
  • Interest in driving EBITDA performance improvements for the business
Why else you'll love it here
  • Wondering what the salary for this role is? Just ask us On a call with one of our recruiters it's something we always cover as we genuinely want to match your experience with the correct salary. The reason why we don't advertise is because we honestly have a degree of flexibility and would never want salary to be a reason why someone doesn't apply to Octopus - what's more important to us is finding the right octofit
